i need to have something that i ordered online sent to the post office, but i dont know what address to put for the post office

You cannot get something shipped to the post office unless you reside in the delivery area and get mail service, have a post office box OR have it shipped to General Delivery.
General Delivery is usually used by travelers or homeless people.
I doubt if an online company will ship to a general delivery address but they might.
The proper address format is;
Your Name
General Delivery
Town, State, Zip
Do not have the item shipped to the post office's address as it will be returned. You have 10 days to claim the item after it has arrived at the post office. Make sure that the item is being sent through USPS as the the post office cannot accept items through alternate delivery services such as UPS or DHL.
To be on the safe side, go the post office and speak to the clerk. Tell the clerk you are expecting a parcel through General Delivery. The clerk may ask you to fill out a card which is an application to receive mail through General Delivery.

I do not understand why you want it sent to the post office unless you live or work at that post office?
If you ordered something they need your address to send it to you....
If you need it trucked somewhere like a car this is a whole different situation.
