When he was growing up, he idolized then basketball star Dr. J. Later when he started DJing at clubs and parties, he went by the name Dr. J in tribute to the star. Later, in one of his songs, it states he has a "Ph.D. in mixology". His first name is Andre.....Blah, blah blah. His name finally became Dr. Dre.
