When you die there are many 'stages' your consciousness goes through. Psychologically speaking, these are dreamlike states filled with visions that are dependent on your mental condition at the time of your death.
Religions, or other belief systems, have no real meaning here other than how they influenced your mental condition while you were alive.
Some religions, or belief systems, that accurately explain the death process may also ready your mind and help guide you through these stages in a positive way.
I don't have the time or complete knowledge to explain each type of 'vision' or 'dream' you will see, but ultimately what it comes down to is they will range from being terrifying to peaceful. After these dream stages you will enter another body and the cycle of rebirth continues unless you have become enlightened, then the rebirth cycle stops.
Do I fear death?
In all honesty, sometimes I fear death a little and some times not at all. ;-)

For a Catholic there is no death. They eat the body and drink the blood of Jesus--they are alive in Christ so at the death of sin we are changed in the twinkling of an eye. We still have to remain free of sin during life that is why we have confession so we can ask Jesus to put those sins we commit after baptism on the cross with him. He said to his Apostles who's sins you shall forgive shall be forgiven, so that is the reason. If you do not eat of his body nor drink of his blood he said you have no life in you. I am not sure if that means you sleep until the end of time or what. I kind of think you sleep (death) until the end of time then because of your faith in him he can raise you up. Even St. Paul says "Behold I tell you a great mystery--not all of us will fall asleep. Some of us will be changed in the twinkling of an eye."

After death you go before God and let Him see your life. What He sees will depend upon your spiritual destination. No I am not afraid of death. I will be present with the Lord. To many people think they need to be old to die and this is so untrue. 5 little girls was buried recently from gunshot wounds to the head. It was in the news. Every time you get in a vehicle you may not come back in one piece. You get in the bathtub you may end up dead. You are born to die and destined for the physical form to die. The spiritual form never dies.

Most people think that when they die they will sleep peacefully. That is a very wrong. When your body will be berried inside the grave, you will live an other life. This life depends on your doing while you were alive. If you believe in God and his messengers your grave will be comfortable, but if don't ,
then you will suffer as you never did before.

No. To be absent from the body (if you are a believer in Jesus Christ) is to be present with the Lord. As someone said once: for a Christian, death is a promotion.

I am not afraid of death because Jesus spoke of death as a sleep.
We will be resurrected when he comes to earth a second time.
