Is there a good explanation to this?

My mother tells me it's a lack of sleep but I make sure he gets at least 8 hours of sleep every night.

My son did the some thing. I turned out to be allergies. I have been an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) since 1985 and an Expanded Duties Dental Assistant since 1986.

You can go to your dentist and have a night mouth guard made, but if you do not have dental insurance or your insurance won't cover this it can be expensive.

You can go to any store that sells sporting goods and get just about the same thing for $2.00. They make youth mouthguards for children. Have him try the mouthguard in his mouth, if it is too long, you can trim it with scissors prior to the next step. Boil some water, drop the mouthguard into the boiling water for about 30 seconds. Take it out and let it cool down slightly so that it does not burn your child. Have him bite down hard and hold the bite. You can further mold it to his teeth by gently pushing his cheeks and under his lips. Leave it in for about 1 minute. If the is rubber that attatches to the front of a face mask that can be cut down prior to boiling and any ruff edges can be rubbed smooth before he puts it in his mouth.

He can brush the mouthguard with toothpaste prior to putting it in at night.

We all drool, when we sleep at night, sometimes we do not swallow and when we sleep on our sides the drool pools and then runs out of our mouths. Grinding of the teeth however can cause medical issues and needs to be dealt with. You might consider having him allergy tested. They can use drops under the tongue now instead of shots. The drops can be mixed in a flavor of your sons choice. You could also try a nightly antihistamine.

Good luck.

This could easily be allergies. Children who drool often are congested and breath through their mouths until they drool. If it's not allergies, it could be a dental issue. Have your son checked out by a doctor and a dentist just to be sure. I doubt it's a lack of sleep so don't stress -- you're being a good mom....

I drool in my sleep.... As for the teeth grinding. Here visit this website, I didnt wanna just copy everything it says.. http://www.clevelandclinic.org/health/health-info/docs/3100/3145.asp?index=10955 ...it talks about doing this because of an abnormal bite, missing or crooked teeth, headaches, or a sore jaw.

If he's breathing normally, then you should take him to a dentist who specializes in children. They do have mouth pieces for kids...you definetly want to curb this before the permanent teeth come in.

the dentist can make him a mouth piece that he wears when he sleeps to stop this, my grand daughter got hers for about $50 and hers stopped.
