What makes you think He invented it?? The wright brothers invented the plane but they did not invent the pollution they produce. Edison invented the light bulb but not the ugliness that those lights expose. Perhaps hell is a by product or was always around and He created the place to get out of Hell. Many questions like this are due to a complete lack of imagenation in the minds of those who would like to show that there is not a superior being, and since they can not actually find fault in scripture, they dream outside of the subjects discussed in the written word. It never says in the beginning there was no hell.
The entire idea that there would not be a being superior to man is soooo silly. Look at us, I'm not sure that there are not beings superior to us right here on earth and we are just to arrogant to notice. How could it be that there was not a being superior to man it is not even an intelligent question. Man is one very inferior being and if you can not look around and see that then you are blind.
If we are at the top we should just blow this place up now and get it over with cuz we are gonna do it eventually. We better hope there is someone out there who is smarter more balanced and has more compassion than man cuz we have gotten to a point where life here is going to become very unpleasant and soon. Hell we can not even figure out where all those missing sox are.

A kind and loving god would create mankind for the purpose of being happy with Him for all eternity. God did so. When His people turned against Him in disobedience, a kind and loving God would do whatever was necessary to give them a second chance, even sacrificing His own Son. God did so. But if a person, in spite of all God has done for him, chooses to reject God and live without Him, would a kind and loving God ignore that person's free choices and force him to live in the company of God, for whom he has nothing but contempt? Of course not. And therefore God had no choice but to create a place where those of his beloved children who have chosen to live away from His presence may do so. That is hell, for living without God means living without the slightest hint of goodness, joy, peace, love, beauty, or anything positive. Yes, that would surely be hell.

Well God is loving and he did not creat a Hell like the one that you are refering to.That is a great false teaching.
Hell--- if you look at the origan of the word means grave , common grave.
The firey pit is a false teaching .
So when you die you go to a grave and you know nothing. One day God will have a resurection of all mankind and they will be judged at that time. Those who chose to listen to and follow Gods ways will be able to live on paradice earth for 1000 years before Satan will be let loose again for a short time and those who can prove to be faithful during that time will live forever .However those of mankind that have chosen not to listen and do the will of God wil parish. There is no fire pit to burn in only life everafter or death.

What kind of a god would invent hell? The Christian god who sent his only son to die an agonizing death on the cross with thousands of other Jews. There is no hell in the Torah (Old Testament).
RoyalRacer got it right: "Hell in the bible is translated ,,Hole, Pit, or grave..never a burning place." The root of the Hebrew word "sheol" is "question." Hence, one goes down into the pit of the "unknown."

You're not very well versed in the old testament are you? The "all loving and all wise" god wiped out entire civilizations for not worshipping him the right way. This is also the same deity who gave humans free will, and then got pissed and threw them out of his garden when they used it...
ALL religion and its trappings were made to keep the weak in line.
And read that passage about Adam and Eve again. God told A & E that they would die when they ate the fruit, but Satan told them that not only wouldn't they, but they would know right from wrong and be like gods themselves. Adam lived another 900 years!!! Arguing that this was only the end of their immortality is a crock because they got thrown out before they could eat from the tree that granted that. You're own bible says that god lied, and satan told the truth, and yet you still follow it...

Did the West put that in the Bible? I think not. The Bible has been around for centuries, far before the West (America) was discovered.
Would he create Hell? Yep, Satan has to go somewhere to be rid of him. There are two choices only, you are either with God and saved by Jesus Christ, or, in whatever form, you are not. Those who are not, get to go with Satan. It is your own personal choice.

God didn't invent hell. Lucifer did. Lucifer fought against God and sinned. No evil shall be present in Heaven so God threw him out of Heaven and into the fires of hell (gehenna) (the under world). Actually into earth Genesis says. Then God changed his name to Satan, because Lucifer was the good name God first gave him.
Look into history and you will see that many people burned criminals, poured boiling tar onto them, put them into boiling water, etc. It's just illegal nowadays because we feel it's too uncivilized. But other countries still do awful things to their criminals.
God does not want us to fear hell, He wants us to rejoice everlasting life in Heaven. You shouldn't sin because you love God, not because you fear hell.

I tend to agree with you. I prefer the story of the Bodhisattva Quan Yin who refused to go to heaven until there was no more suffering on earth. Of course, that's also a story. I am one of those people who would like to believe because it would be easier in many ways. I tend to lean toward a creator god of which we are sparks of consciousness. Our religions are such a hodge-podge of myth and fact with many seemingly incompatibilities - including the concept of hell. It certainly could have been created to keep people in line - it works more or less.

Hell is a place prepared for Satan and his followers, basically any one that disobeys God.
Yes God is the God of Love, mercy, etc. but He is also a God of justice......if you do the crime, there will be punishment.
