A misdemeanor is a relatively minor offense, usually adjudicated with a fine. As far as crimes go, misdemeanors are junior league. You will still be able to get a good job and yes it will show up on a background check if your company does a proper background check. Part of the reason they ask for it on an application. Do not lie on your application, that part is useful to employees to disqualify an otherwise eligible candidate. Be upfront about your offense if you are questioned. Most businesses will consider it better to find out from you instead of the background check. If it is a petty theft misdemeanor like you say, most employers won't worry about it. Good Luck.

I don't believe you won't be able to get a job, as long as you continue to do the next right thing. Most employers want to make sure that the people they are hiring are of good moral character. They also Know that we are all human and make mistakes. The fact that you mentioned prayer tells me you are not a career criminal. Stay close to GOD and all will work out!

Criminal records will remain as part of your profile and it could be traced by employers when conducting background investigation on your application papers.
