by that, i mean why do they tell people 'you need to be saved', but then constantly preach on being sure that you are? if God is not the author of confusion, why do so many of His emmisarries on earth encourage an attitude of self doubt about salvation?

the truth is I don't know, but I do know this truth, if you believe on Jesus Christ you will be saved,
the rest of it is that the bible says what soever you sew you shall also reap in this life time.
maybe they do not read the in this life time prat of that scripture.
the ten commandments were send to give us a better life in this life time also.
if you read them with this in mind, you will see that they all affect our lives in the here and now.

I am just guessing at this, but I would say that the reasoning behind posing the continuous question of are you sure is because there are many many many people out there that SAY they are SAVED, yet they really don't know what it is to be saved. They don't know Jesus and they haven't bothered to form a relationship with Jesus. Many say they are save, maybe even get baptized, but them they do nothing to change the sinful ways that they previously had. We all have sin and will continue to sin as long as we are on earth, but those who don't even make an attempt to throw out their bad ways, you have to question their sincerity. While it is true that it is between God and the person, a clergy member and actually any other Christian that may feel that another is falling away,it is their duty to point this out so that the person does not fall away, or so that the person who doesn't fully understand what they are claiming is not surprised on judgment day when Jesus says He didn't know them, they were not saved, they never came to him in their TRUE HEART.

God is not the author of confusion. Trust me, if you are truly saved, you DO KNOW IT, you DO FEEL GODS PRESENCE, and GOD IS WITH YOU at all times. So if one does feel doubt, they should re-evaluate themselves and call on Jesus to show them their true heart and to ask for forgiveness and salvation through Christ.

It is because they doubt the omnipotence of God. To say one can lose their salvation is a slap and a spit in God's face. God gave up too much to lose His own. If a person keeps harping on this issue, then perhaps they are not saved. Ephesians 1:14 states we are sealed until the day of redemption. To lose salvation, means the Holy Spirit of God must leave you, and be unsealed. We are also adopted into God's family Romans 8: 15-17; 8:29-39. Nothing can separate us from the love of God. To claim salvation is conditional, then makes Christianity something it isn't.

First , u have to make sure they really r his emmisaries. Jesus said that false prophets would come and mislead many, like wolves in sheeps clothing. The problem with the majority of churches is they spend so much time worrying about the salvation doctrine, that they don't teach anything else.Everlasting life is promised at John 17;3 by taking in knowledge of God and the one he sent forth, Jesus Christ.

All teachings by truly spiritual people are compassionate.

Sometimes you may need to 'jolt' somebody, but that would almost always be at a one on one relationship and the motive must still be sincere compassion for that individual.

Anyone with a spiritual leader who is using fear all the time needs to find another church.

many people will pretend to be shepherds and lead you to destruvtion. "false preachers"

there are 2 ways to follow god: by fear(self doub, etc.), or by love. so knowing that god loves you no matter what, and hes not the author of confusion, gives you confidence, trusting that he has savd you because salvation is a great gift and god doesnt give crappy gifts.

I think long ago in a different time, atmosphere and culture it became the norm to "rule" and "preach" based on fear. It is outdated and I wish more would start focusing on the positive in their religions. Oh well, things will work out in time...they always do. In that I have faith.

It's an effective way of keeping people coming back. I'm no SO cynical to think the preachers are doing this on purpose (although some probably are), it's just that the ones who do come to dominate. It's a successful meme.
