I would like to think that I could but I know I couldn't, not that easily anyway. But I think that they have a deeper faith than most of us could possibly ever have. They are apart from the world and we are not. That I think is the biggest factor. God calls for us to be in the world not of it. They fulfill that where we fail to most of the time.

I only saw 2 Amish people interviewed on TV that said they forgave. The media kept playing those 2 comments for days. Christian Bush didn't "forgive" the Iraqis, and they had nothing to do with 9-11. Incidentally, the Amish have a very high percentage of wife-beating. So they are not so meek and mild.

I am and always have been christian. But no! I could not ever forgive as the Amish can. I know it is hard to write this but my lord has also given me the free will to forgive or not . Yet I do respect the amish for their strenght in the most difficult trial of their life and faith.

The Amish response to this situation was an incredible witness to the message of the Cross. Forgiveness is a core value to the Christian walk. We all need to pray for strength and commitment to that core value. God truly created us in His image and if we walk by the spirit and not by the flesh than we have the ability to forgive, no matter how heinous the offense against us is. God is working his purpose in each of us and we need to take these lessons of true faith and own them as our values because that is what Christ has called us to. Hold fast to the scripture " I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" Bless you on your journey!

That would be VERY hard to forgive, but alas, as often as God forgives (which is an infinite number of times) we are called to forgive just as much.
Now, I'm not sure, but it just seems to be though that the Amish seem to forgive TOO easy. I haven't heard of any sort of penance required of offenders in Amish communities.

Sometimes being all-forgiving is not a good thing. Quite a few Amish men have molested a child and have gotten away with it, since they like to hush things up. How is this good for the child?

The Amish have a long history of pacifism and also of being persecuted. They have learned forgiveness the hard way since the beginnings of their sect. Turning the other cheek and loving your enemy is taught from the day a child is born. I wish the rest of us could have such faith and love and could pass it on to our children as effectively.

I am doubtful I could... but am hopeful I would. My daughter is my life... we cannot have another. If something happenned to her... I don't know what I would do. I hope I would be able to forgive... but it would be a very hard thing to do. I respect the Amish and their way of life.

In order to be in a relationship with God you have to love your neighbor like you would yourself. Its a must!!!
I,m not saying that it would not be hard.I would have to pray continuously to Jehovah God for the strength to forgive only because I am human and I have Human feelings. I would never forget and hopefully someday I could actually conquer the battle and really feel the forgiveness. I would pray hard for this and with the help of God I hope that I could forgive.

I know it wouldn't be easy but eventually I would have to forgive to get my own heart with God. It says in the Bible that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against Satan. I would have to turn to the Lord for His strength to be able to do this. I hope and pray that I'm never in that situation
