my sister had the same problem,he would #2 where ever he was.She used pictures for him to tell her what he needed to do, and watched him extra close to try to catch him, and if she did she took him to the bathroom. Have you tried one of those potty seats that fits on the toilet? He may be afraid of falling in. Does he go to school yet? My nephew started school when he was 3 and it was a great help. I feel for you as I watch my sister take care of her son and as a single mother as well. This is in my opinion the hardest thing you will ever do, raise an autistic child. Do you have a support group in your area if you do I would advise you joining. I wish you all the lick in the world!

I worked at a daycare center who had an autistic kid. His parents didn't want anything to do with him, or his potty training. They had been bringing him to our center (12 hours a day, 5 days a week and kept asking if we could take him on Saturdays) since he was 6 weeks old, so we all knew his problems and loved him.
We ended up making him sit there, crying, until he pooped. It took three times and he was trained. We put him on the toilet after he ate anything. Oh, he was 3 and a half when we trained him, and taught him to holler "potty" when he had to go.
He was high functioning though, I don't know about your kid.
Someone sat with him with a book and sang him songs, so it sounds harsh, but we really loved him. He was the funniest kid.

Let him choose his own potty seat. Or get a plain one and let him decorate it with stickers. He needs to know it is his and that's where it goes. Let him see mom and dad do the same thing. He needs to learn from you as well. It will take time but every time you go take him with you. He is your child you need to choose the best way to teach him. Being Autistic I wouldn't make him sit there crying that may make it worse. He is not being punished.

try giving him magazines to look at or other activities that even you can do with him while he is in there. I know that it doesn't sound appealing but, it may help good luck.
