I want to volunteer at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen this year in the Los Angeles area, but I don't know how to go about it. Who do I contact in order to do this?

Try a search for charitable organizations in your area. Some examples: Salvation Army, Catholic Social Services, Food Bank. Or contact some local churches. Most of them have ongoing service projects or could give you some referrals.

Go to the shelter or soup kitchen and talk to who ever is in charge. They would be grateful for the help.

I volunteer every year but keep getting turned down year after year. For some reason they don't want a long haired guy with a beard, wearing a g-srting and a harter top, stuffing the turkey. Is that discrimination or what?
