Hacking can help identify weaknesses in computer systems, but the hacker can also abuse those same systems. Hacking someone's computer should only be allowed if the person/company that owns it consents to it. Otherwise, no it should not be legalised as there are no accountability on those doing the hacking.

Oh yes for sure.

Come on! Companies, etc spend billions of dollars and people invest lots of time etc to have some anti-social computer geek destroy my computer to what...give me a lesson?

If you want to work out weaknesses in a program then get a job! Quit being the closet hacker and then try to justify it by saying you're really helping me.

I would not hire a thief to come see if my home were secure, but rather I would hire someone with the knowledge of a theif and the credentials of a securities specialist trained to provide a service. Legalize hacking? Maybe Cracking... but no no no no . I like to keep my money and investments MINE. Thank You.

Hell no, there are already enoguh problems in this world. Everyday E-business becomes bigger and bigger and the more hacking into the systems the herder it will hit e business and hamper our economy. Thats like saying we should legalize kiddy porn and release all the rapists in the prison systems or legalize murder and release all the murderers.

Companies hire professional Hackers to try and break their systems so they can fix any problems. It shouldn't be legal because they already have people on it who aren't going to steal identities or cause national security problems like faceless Internet users would.

If people didn't hack, weakness's in a computer system wouldn't mean anything.

technically, it's not illegal. the laws where hackers are prosecuted for are either:

1. property damage to the company, e.g. a form of vandalism or theft, or
2. copyright law.

for people who are remembering the the CDA of 1992, it was repealed ~1994.

The guy in the Phillipines who was captured for the "iluvyou" virus was arrested based on international, not national, law.

Yes I do but the American way is to cover up and punish anyone who dares criticize. Japan ate our lunch by rewarding people who pointed out mistakes and corrected the mistakes. We all know how our auto industry went by turning out NFG cars year after year.(Lincolns air ride and Cadillac engines) You can't correct a mistake unless you are willing to find it.

Hacking is legal as long as you are doing it to your own computer or someone who has authorized you to test their security. If you are doing it to harm someone it is clearly unlawful and should be punished. It would be similar to me putting sugar in your car's gas tank to see if it would run better.
