MY DOG HAD PUPPIES ALMOST 4 WKS AGO, AND YESTERDAY I GAVE ALL OF THEM AWAY, THEY WERE REALLY BIG AND EATING AND DRINKNG ON THEIR OWN, SHE WOULD BARELY FEED THEM ANYMORE. NOW TODAY HER BREASTS ARE HARD AS A ROCK AND LOOKS KINDA DEFORMED NOW, COULD IT BE HER MILK DRIED UP LIKE THAT, SOMETHING WARM WATER WILL TAKE CARE OF OR COULD THERE BE SOME OTHER PROBLEM?

You need to call your vet if her breast are large red & hard. To dry up milk in dams, you cut back food & water for about a week.

The pups were a little young to take away just yet, I would have given them at least another week with mom, but since you did it, it's water under the bridge at this point.
As for mom, warm water to soothe for now, but call vet asap and ask about it. If it's something to be worried about, your vet will tell you; if not, they will advise you what to do for her without having to take her in.
Next litter, wait till at least 6 wks b4 removing from mom, whether you think she's feeding or not. More than likely she was still feeding them, but only once or twice a day. You probably didn't notice b/c you weren't there. Puppies get teeth at 3 wks and they are called milk teeth, and mom won't quit feeding just b/c they have them. Always talk to vet b4 selling/placing babies of any species. They should be checked and have shots and worming b4 placed in another home.
Good luck.

well first of all the pups should not have been given away til they were at least 6 weeks old. another thing is the reason why her breast are hard is because there is to much milk and that is normal for the brast to get that way. because if the pressure is released then that can cause a problem. she needs the pups to get some of the milk from her. see the pups could have nursed for a while and still eating food but mom needs those pups. but you can't squeeze her breast to relieve the pressure of the milk that she is still producing. i breed golden retrievers and when mom slows down on feeding them her breasts get hard til the pups nurse alittle and then they are back to normal. you should never sell or give puppies away til they are about 6-8 weeks old because when they are that young they still can get sick even if they are at a new home. before you sell or give a puppy away you need to make sure that they have had their 2nd set of shots to help protect them form getting sick. but again it is normal and the swelling of the breasts will go down in a couple of days.

"Emergency" medical questions about the health of your pet should really be asked of your own vet, or a local emergency vet ... rather than relying on Yahoo answers.
Puppies need the antibodies and specialized nutrients contained within dog milk, and your decision to give away the puppies at least 14 days early (and in violation of the law) has put the health of the puppies at risk. If possible, take all necessary steps to get the puppies back for the next two weeks so that they can continue to nurse.
Please consider having your dog spayed since she has already had two litters.
Please take your momma dog to the vet tomorrow to have her checked out.

usually you decrease the anount of time that the puppies spend nursing before you give them away. But she will be ok, give her all the water she can drink and a little less food than normal fo rthen next week or two. Don't try to milk the nipples out, she will reabsorb the milk and be okay. SHe will be a bit sore, you can put warm wet cloths on her teats if you want to help with the discomfort

You've already messed up in so many ways it's not even worth responding....other than to tell you to please consult your veterinarian first thing in the morning. (And please don't breed any more dogs until you educate yourself more about the proper way to do it.....)
I will say that it's unlikely to be mastitis. Since she's still making milk, but there are no pups there to drink it any more....it is completely normal for the breasts to get big and hard for a few days (due to the pressure of the milk) before they start to go down. That back pressure is needed to tell her body to stop making milk....just like in women. Do not milk them out, or you might cause mastitis. Leave them alone.
But make that appt. with your DVM.

If it was only 4 weeks ago she had them, the pups are far too young ... the mother is still feeding them
You had better get those puppies back NOW
You think she hardly feeds them but you are so very wrong. She would have been feeding them during the night.
Her teats are engorged with milk

I hate to sound mean and I hate to sound rude, but are you crazy? Puppies need to remain with their mother for a minimum of 6 weeks. I some states it's again the law to take pups from their mothers before 8 weeks of age.

I agree they were a bit young but if they were eating on thier own and drinking thats fine. As for mommys teets it should dry up on its own in about a week you can relieve some of the pressure by using a warm washcloth and laying it on her nipples. If it doesn't clear up in about a week by all means TAKE HER TO A VET. Best of luck.

It sounds like she has the starting of Mastitis, a potentially severe systemic (the entire body) infection that starts in the breasts brought on by the weaning of puppies. This can turn serious in a short amount of time.
She is in pain and this will not go away on its own.
She most likely will need anitbiotics.

Are you aware that in most states it is Illegal to give puppies or kittens away before they are 8 weeks old! No matter what you think these pups should be with their mom. I do hope you are having her spayed!
