Depends on the age. If it's a baby a cross would be nice. My daughter was baptized when she was 3 and some gifts she received was a cross, cross earrings and religious plaques. But jewelry is nice for any age, or maybe a rosary in their birthstone.

Well, you are getting ready to promise to God and her parents that you will always be in her life as a spiritual mentor, so think along those lines.
You could buy a set of childrens bible stories, or better yet, two sets of the same stories, one for your house and one for her house. Then make sure you take the time to read them to her when you get the opportunity.
Whatever you decide to get her, you are already giving her your heart and taking on a huge responsibility to make sure she is always grounded in the truth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Many blessing to you for consenting to fulfill this role.

A nice Blessed Crucifix is a wonderful gift. As the child grows she will take it with her throughout life. I mean to put on her wall.
