It depends on if it is portraying someone as an individual or as being representative of the entire religion. There certainly have been evil people who are Catholics, so I don't mind that being represented. I just don't want the message to be that those evil individuals mean that the whole religion is evil.

BTW, I don't mind shows that poke fun of Catholics, like Father Ted. I can laugh at shows like that.

While it may be offensive, it usually says more about the offender, than anything else.

Take WNA Don's reply, for example.

He has the gall to label the oldest and largest Christian Church in the world as a cult ... and he routinely disrespects the Pope, who is the God ordained leader of around a billion Catholics, all over the world.

And he does it in a sneaky way that sheds no light, and really has nothing to do with your actual question.

Anyway, if a show provides for a balanced approach, I have no problems with it.

It's the "snipers" on shows like "The View" that cross the line.

In any event, there should always be common courtesy, balance, and respect. Truth may be too much to hope for.

I don't take offense because it is just Hollywood hype. But at the same time it makes people ignorant of what the Catholic Church, nuns, etc. are really like. People will do anything to drag religion down, so you just try to correct as many wrong ideas and such that people have and move on, but many just want to believe the lies they see on television so they could never be convinced otherwise. So you basically just ignore that type and move on.

Yes I am offended, but what can I do it is socially acceptable to talk badly about Catholics, in public, on the radio, on the television, in Hollywood, and even in some Christian churches.
