Depends on what you want the dog for.. what kind of space you have for the dog and how much time you have for the dog. Don't get a high energy dog if you live somewhere without a fenced in yard and if you don't have the time to spend with it, training and exercising it.

a mutt from that pound, that you have taken the time to train properly. They are so grateful for a home. Plus this is adopt-a shelter-dog month. Go to your local humane society and take a look around. There are purebreds there too, but my mutt is the best dog I have and I have 2 others that are purebreds/

My experience is that mutts are the best. They have better personalities and are much more "hardy" than line-bred or pedigree dogs. They also have more variety in size and appearance. I've had both mutts and pure-breeds and mutts tend to be my favorite.

IT really depends on YOU.
http://www.canismajor.com/dog/chbreed.html
this website will give you some good information.
Just remember that choosing a dog for you is a personal decision, a long term comittment, and a huge investment (time, money and emotions). Good luck, and consider a shelter or a rescue group- they often are very helpful in finding a dog that will suit your needs/ wants.

There is no "best" breed..
All dogs are good..
They are really mans best friend..
Some breeds are better than other for particular jobs...
Poodles , poodle mixes & snauzers are all good pets...

I recommend a Doberman because they are loyal, easy to train, smart and great protection dogs, and great around kids just don't train them to be mean! I have two myself and they are the best!
