Hi, and what a good question! I was in the first Desert Storm on a M1A1 tank with the USMC. The armor on this tank would defeat any Soviet Anti-tank round. I would think, and remember it would be hard to hit a tank that is stationary 100 times, very difficult to penetrate the armor. Also, any tank, Soviet, French, US, or British, would be able to withstand any amount of MG rounds to its turret or hull armor. The weakest part of any tank is the panels around the engine, there it might just succeed!. Remember, tanks move, so it is very difficult to place rounds on target after 1-5 seconds and to get the result you would want.

What kind of tank? A tank I know is the Panzerkampfwagen I, or Panzer I with armor that can be pierced by Heavy machinegun(concentrated). Tanks today? Just like you use your toenails and pick on other people's feet.
Hey, if you want to hit a tank, never the front.
The anti-tank rifle looks like an MG, but can do a little damage to tanks.

There will be a lot of flattened bullets flying around, and maybe some chipped paint on the tank. And some very angry tankers inside.
You would need something much heavier than a machine gun, and armor-piercing shells.
Even a lot of supposedly armor-piercing shells would bounce off a tank with very heavy arnor.

What's an MG? What type of tank? How thick is the armor? What location on the tank?

Only if you're using a heavy MG - eg M2 0.5" Browning & the tank is a light tank.
