I don't think that you have to attend church every Sunday, but staying completely out of the church is a bad idea.
When you go to church, you are in fellowship with the members there. It's a very good environment to be in to have questions answered, talk with people, or just to worship God. When you're there, you are also a part of the church. Whatever position you hold, you make up a piece of the body of the church, and you are missed when you don't come. In larger churches, it may not seem like it, but you do play an important role in whatever church you attend.
So no, you don't have to go every week, but go when you can because your church does need you.
hope this helps!

Well, you are right that you don't need church every Sunday.
But consider these facts
Going to church allows you to be with a group of people you can relate to on a spiritual level. These people can also be a support group for you and you for them. These are people that will help you when you are down and pray for you.
One reason we have so many various churches in Christianity is because there are so many different interpretations of the Bible. Sure you can read the Bible, but it does help to talk with someone to help you interpret it correctly.
If you didn't like the churches you have tried before, perhaps try a different church.
I don't attend every week, but I have found that going to church does help me, because I learn things from the sermon and from the people I attend church with.

I agree, it is more important to be a good person than to show up a church every week end, I think a lot of people are confused about that.
Look at the priests and ministers who molest children, etc. clearly being at church hasn't made them good people.
God and spirit are everywhere. Not just in a building.
I find it easier to be spiritual when I'm not around a lot of people who are there for the wrong reasons (gossip, showing off their cars (clothing), competing with each other...I try to not judge them but it's hard to ignore. I know some people who get together in a small group, I thought that was a good idea, they read to each other from the bible, discuss and have tea and cookies.
"Where ever two or more are gathered in my name", right?

I totally agree with you. My husband and I don't go to church. I've found that when I'm going to church frequently, I begin to rely on the pastor to teach me instead of reading the Bible to find out things for my own. I don't like to do that because I don't like have preconceived doctrine shoved down my throat. I prefer to read the Bible for the truth, not what everyone else believes. I've come to disagree with some beliefs that most Christians believe are fundamental because I sought what the Word said, not what the pastor said.
God can speak to you just as much, if not more, at home than at church.

I like your thinking, and it makes sense to think that way if you are only considering yourself, but I'd have to disagree because there is so much you could be doing for those who go to church. Taking part in the ministries of God is the reason we are left on earth after we are saved. I do think it is okay to miss church if for some reason you don't feel up to it every so often, but to have an effective personal ministry you must belong to a church. If your not willing to do the bigger things, like witnessing, there's always smaller things to be done in a church, like working in the nursery or greeting visitors who otherwise would not come again and eventually get saved. God bless

I also struggle with going to church every Sunday. I feel guilty because, If God gives me so many blessings, and even lets met draw breath every day, WHY can't I devote an hour on SUnday to just being with other Christians, and joining in songs of praise.
He says not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together (I forget the ref.), but I don' t really "assemble" with the other people. I listen to Christian radio and pray and sometimes feel like that sholud be enough. I also know that God does not want you in church if you are just going to check it off your list. He knows our hearts right?? I feel that it is important to go, unfortunately I don't have a church right now that I really feel connected with. But to answer simply, No God does not judge your soul, by how often you go to church, but he does want us to go.

It's good that you feel a friendship with God. That's wonderful. But keep in mind that God said to keep His day holy (the sabbath day, or the Lord's day). It's one of the ten commandments. That means regular worship of Him on Sunday, in church.

Your individual worship is as important as your corporate worship. What I don't like about corporate worship (e.g. going to a church building on Sunday) is that most of the order of service is so cut-and-dried and nothing out of the ordinary (such as an unusual flow of the Holy Spirit) is supposed to take place. That's why balancing this with individual worship is necessary so that you don't get yourself stuck in a rut.

I think if you found a church that you really liked, that made the word come alive within you...whose praise and worship music made you feel like dancing, and you would come out of church feeling refreshed and alive....you'd RUN there every Sunday.

I agree about not going to church. Church was invented by people not God. God's Church is nature, like the woods where my husband and I got married.
