I have always wanted to know why they call them martinis as "the best" martinis are supposed to be dry, not sweet.

Because most chocolate martinis incorporate a sweet liqueur such as Godiva they are way over the top sweet for a martini. And, most chocolate liqueurs are cream liqueurs (like Bailey's) so the end result doesn't even end up looking like a martini.

If you like sweet drinks, chances are you will like a chocolate "martini." However, if you want something that resembles an actual martini, use a chocolate-flavored vodka as the base (there is one called "Van Gogh"). It will start out dry with a clean chocolate flavor and then you can use other liqueurs (instead of vermouth) to flavor it. Try using an orange-flavored liqueur like tripe sec or Grand Marnier. Or a mint schnapps.

This way you are in complete and total control of the sweetness of the martini. This is a good thing, especially if you like your martinis dry.

thumbs up!

A friend of mine and I had a "tini night" that is where you go to a place with a bar and a good bartender and try every type of martini that they know.

early in the night we were presented with a chocolate martini. It was good. the martini glass was drizzled with chocolate syrup and the rim was covered with hot cocoa mix then the chocolate martini was put in. It was great.

If you like martini's: thumbs up

If you just like chocolate: thumbs down

I thought I'd like them cause I love chocolate... but it was actually kinda yucky...

It probably also depends on the bartender. I'm sure with the right bartender they can be fantastic!

I have, and I really thought I would disliked it. I expected it to be thick, strong, and well, disgusting. I was really wrong! Here's a recipe I used and still continue to, it's yummy!

2 oz vodka
1/2 oz creme de cacao

Pour ingredients into shaker filled with ice then pour into martini glass.

No, but I have had Key Lime, which is super delicious!!!! I also have had pineapple, apple, and other fruit ones...but never chocolate. I'm sure it tastes good though! It never hurts to try one! If you don't like it, you can always send it back! =)

Thumbs UP! It's a great drink, as "sweet drinks" go. I am a gin person, and usually avoid sweet drinks, but it is definitely a good one!

Oh yeah, that's my favorite. Although it does depend on who makes them. Anywhere I have had them the person always makes them different. So I just make my own at home.....
