I only speak English. Should I study one for practical reasons, even though it doesn't interest me, should I study one because I love the sound of it, should I study one to earn money, or maybe combine my reasons and study one that interests me & not get hung up because I'll have no one in my neighborhood to speak it with?

something that you want to learn because you love the sound of it that way you will keep your interest longer and if it helps you make more money along the way then so be it.

Study one to earn money. When I studied German, I made money going to the court and translating things that the defendant did not understand. Germans actually speak English great, so I actually just sat there every time and collected a paycheck.

There are high demand languages out their today like Farsi and Arabic. Don't take a language just becuase your friends are. I've found you can learn Spanish on your own. Take a language that otherwise would be difficult to learn on your own.

English is an international language i know that, but what if you'll need another language to work with or even to talk to some1 else, to do business? Like me, I'm Portuguese but i had to study 3 more languages to do my work. Of course i study the ones i like most...so choose 1 or 2 more languages that you know you'll be successful and go a head...study them...my advise, and form my experience, is nobody do anything without English, of course, Spanish, french and now Italian. Portuguese is good too, but a little difficult and if you get to learn good Spanish no1 will fool in Portuguese, they very similar. Good luck and God Bless you

It depends on where you live. Mostly Spanish seems to be the main second language in this country, but I have a love of Italian. this presented a problem when I was studying both. the languages were so similar that I used to mix them up.

A practical answer is to study a language that will be useful. A romantic answer is to study a language that fascinates you.

I suggest that you learn Spanish for practical reasons. Spanish is a fun language and there are many hispanic speakers in America. If you don't want to learn Spanish, French is an interesting language to learn. A lot of people would suggest that you learn Chinese, but that language might be hard to stick to. It's really hard to write Chinese >.<

Why stick to just one? Once you learn one language it's easy to pick up a second one. I would start with spanish because the pronunciation is so easy and the grammer is not difficult. Then after you learn spanish I would try one of the other romance languages, like french. It's so romantic and very similar to spanish in grammer.

spanish, because there are so many mexicans and spanish speakers coming into our country, you should know at least the basics in case of an emergency or somthing. plus, if you can speak two languages in a certain job you get paid more! anyways, spanish seems to be the most common foreign langauge right now.

You will get a much better appreciation for the English language if you study Latin. Once you become familiar with Latin, it will be much easier to learn French, Spanish, Italian, Romansch, Portuguese, or Romanian, since they are all similar to Latin.
