The long haired young men that I know cannot come out. All of my out friends have short hair. Is this a trend? Is this a fear factor?

It's a variation on the old Samson and Delilah syndrome. The male with long hair attaches some sort of empowerment to that hair. It is quixotic that what was considered masculine by our society (short hair) has now been adopted by so many gay men, while the longer hair, ponytails and braids are sported by so many heterosexuals. Go figure!
