devlsadvocate, I'm afraid it is pro-choice advocates making the false analogy of life outside the womb. The infant is born and becomes a baby, but requires the same nutrients. It is still dependent on the host (or nurses) to provide them for a given length of time. Trying to mark a time when the baby can survive outside the womb is a logical fallacy called "false precision."

sorry, I am a pro liofer but I had to say something since it seems that people are not understanding the question.
If I am understanding you properly then devlsadvoct, this is not a false analogy.
It is not the argument for all pro choicers but one argument I have heard a lot is that hte baby is not a life, it is an extension of the womans body because it cannot survive on its own. Well it is not a huge stretch at all to say that an infant, outside the mother's womb is no less dependant on the mother for the sustaining of life- that child is completly dependent on the mother's milk for proper nourishment. That baby, unlike animal children could not be left alone for a couple of hours much less a day without putting his life in danger.
What if this became a huge inconvenience for the mother- just did not fit in with her lifestyle??
Think about it- because you cannot wiggle out without using false logic and vain excuses.

"host"? What do you think it is, an alien parasite?
Infants can survive outside the womb at around 26-30 weeks. That depends on the infant. Before that, it can't. After that, it needs a LOT of help to survive. Without modern medicine, babies born that early would die (as they used to).
Personally, I don't see what this has to do with being pro-choice (which I am). As far as I'm concerned, until it's born it's not a baby, it's a fetus. And although I would try very hard to convince any woman having *my* baby NOT to have an abortion, I don't feel that it's my place or the government's place to make that decision for a woman. It's her body, and the fetus is part of her body, so it's her choice. US law agrees with me -- abortion is legal.

With medical assistance, a developing child can survive outside the body at 26 weeks. And no human infant, regardless of development can survive unaided after being born. That's why they need people to take care of them.

when the fetus, reaches a certain age in utero it can survive outside the body...my child was born at 27 weeks and survived for a few days, had we been able to stop my labor for a few more weeks he would have been viable.
