Is it an auto or manual? If you have an auto, clunking while going from first to second isn't always the end of the world, but get it to a shop for an evaluation.

If it's a manual, clunking while shifting could be a sign of ageing syncros. Change out the fluid and shift more slowly between gears; that can help worn syncros mesh the gears more smoothly. I had a Borg Warner 5 speed that started to have 1st to 2nd syncro problems, but I managed to get another 50,000 miles out of it before it needed an overhaul. Good luck.

I have seen more miles than that please have your mounts checked and replaced. Three to look at two engine mounts and transmission mount while under there check the center driveshaft support/bearing.
