Why do people always say that "God" is the greatist being ever, and that without him they would not be who they are? I say this because how do they know that it was "God" since no one has seen him/her or seen them?
I ask this because i am thinking of being a religious person, but i need to know this.

God has made himself evident and all of his creation knows him, but we have all gone our own way at some point in time. He calls us back to himself and it is up to us to answer that call, you have to make your own choice, if you are thinking about it it is your time to make that decision. Ask Jesus to make himself real to you, invite him into your heart. god has promised us a new spirit and a new heart, all you have to do is ask for it! I pray that you will search with your whole heart just like he said, if you seek him with your whole heart you will find him. PS you don't sound evil you sound like you arebeing honest, God likes us to be honest not phony.

God is a Spirit.In the Old Testament Moses saw a burning bush
and God spoke to him out of the bush.God has many names and they
describe a characteristic of Gods nature.God told Moses to tell his people
that "I AM that I AM"sent Moses to them.[I AM that I AM shows ALL
POWERFUL GOD]
In the New Testament when they came to arrest Jesus in the garden the guards ask Jesus his name and he answered them "I AM"
and they all fell backyards because Jesus used Gods all powerful name
and they hit the ground.Jesus WAS GOD IN THE FLESH.You read John
and learn about Jesus and you will have your answer.

You can't think of being religious.... plus you don't want to be religious... you should want to be a Bible believer. Religion puts a new suit on an old man where TRUE Bible believing Christianity puts a new MAN in the old suit.
The Lord CHANGES you inside out, and makes you a new creature in Christ, a totally different person. I used to be a falling down drunk, now I don't touch alcohol... I used to smoke, now I don't, I used to lust every oportunity I got, now I don't... and I have NEVER seen God.
And this is not something you just TRY on. If you do, you will be very dissapointed. You must realize that you have broken the Law of a Holy God. The Bible says thou shalt not lie... ever lied?
If you could keep the 10 commandments you could go to heaven. But you can't, no one can. Think about it, if you have lied, you have already broken God's law. Because of this the Bible says that ALL liars shall not inherit the kingdom (heaven). But EVERYONE has lied right? Right. So we are all going to hell? Yes,,, BUT God knows we can't keep the law, it is impossible, so He came in the flesh, Jesus Christ, and by shedding His blood and dying on the cross and raising up from the dead, He paid the penalty FOR us. His blood cleanses us from ALL unrighteousness.
See the penalty for YOUR sin MUST be paid. Either you accept the free gift God gave through Jesus Christ, or YOU pay it by choosing to go to hell.
The Bible says the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Salvation is a free gift from God. It is not of works lest any man should boast.
You have lied, you must face a Holy Righteous God on judgment day. He is a perfect Judge and MUST judge sin. You will be judged... choose this day whom you will serve. Its called faith. If you accept Jesus as your savior (from Hell), in your heart- you will know there is a God. You need to ask questions to find things out- perfectly normal- and okay.

God is not a "being", He is the omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent Creator and Lord of all. Therefore, had He never established the Creation there would be only God.

I'm glad you are thinking of becoming religious but religion can hurt you. See GOD has shown Himself to you in many ways, every good thing in your life comes from Him, He is the Father of lights in whom there is no shadow of turning. You have to have faith in GOD. Jesus told one of His disciples. Blessed are you because you have seen but more blessed are those who believe and yet have not seen. GOD loves you man.

if you seek Him, you'll find Him.
Talk to Him daily and He will start answering the questions of your heart that you've never told anyone else - you'll know it's Him - He can't be mistaken.
