Im supposed to call this girl back (because I called her earlier and left her a message to call me back, which she did but I was in class) and now Im realizing I just wanted to hang out but I can't think of how to ask without sounding needy. We havn't really hung out much yet.

Just say: Hye I just called the other day to see what you were up to. I thought maybe we could hang out or something.

Yeah when you ask her out don't make it sound like a date, say for example "lets go hang out at the park, mall, cafe, etc."
