Kids do not learn witchcraft from these books. They are full of latin phrases which don't do dick! You might as well get pissed at Cinderella's fairy godmother and her bippity boppity boos.

Hey, I am a Christian, and I cannot tell you how much I LOVE Harry Potter! I am totally obsessed. I agree with you 100%, these books do not promote witchcraft. If anything, they make kids, teens, and adults want to READ! That is something that has not happened in many moons! This has nothing to do with witchcraft religions, like "Wicca". Anyone who says that is misinformed and ignorant. HP is not "Satanic" in any way.

Most of the Christians that are against it and want to BAN it have admitted to never reading the books. Figures. Parents are closing their kids off to things like good fiction, and most of the time the kids want to read it. Let them read! If you have a problem with it don't ruin it for everyone else! If they are brought up correctly in their faith, no novel or movie should sway their faith.

And anyone who has aproblem with HP can kiss my Chocolate Frogs and I can hit 'em with a whoppin' Avada Kedavra!

I think you may be right on that, but parents who don't let their children watch that may be right as well.

See, I don't think watching anything like that would do me any harm spiritually. But I know that Christian parents have valid reasons for not letting their kids watch it. When I was younger, I remember that there were things I was not allowed to do that other kids were allowed to do, and it seemed a bit confusing. But after having some life experience, questioning my faith, then choosing to serve God again, I can see how there is a lot of spiritual truth to some of the seemingly ridiculous legalistic stuff that I always had to put up with.
So, with Harry Potter, I can see how Christian parents would be concerned that their children, because of their innocence, could be harmed spiritually, or be misled or whatever. I think in some cases, they can be mistaken as well, and just being overly sensitive. But I don't know enough about Harry Potter to make a judgment either way. I'm just saying that sometimes there are good reasons... not that the movie itself is evil, but could have a negative impact on young children.

Religionists of all kinds tend to have strange ideas. Some Christians were anxious because the Potter books centred on witchcraft. They thought the books would lure kids into Satanism. Poppycock, of course - although I did find the Arthur Ransome books of "Swallows and Amazons" nurtured my intuitive addiction to boats and sailing! Some Xtians I've discussed Potter with were peeved that there was no use of The Cross or other Xtian symbols and incantations in the books to combat evil - they thought this undermined the idea of an all-powerful God (of theirs, of course). For some reason (no-reason) Xtians regard their own ideas of a God etc, as NOT "occult", but witchcraft etc is. I wonder they dare use imagination for anything at all in case they have a "dark" thought. Whew! I smell brimstone!

Well, my Christian friend who hated Harry Potter was never allowed to read fairy tales, play with barbies, or learn about Santa. I was raised in the same church, and did all of those things, plus I read Harry Potter. I'm still a Christian, I'm still the same person. The people you speak of are afraid of what children may believe. I think if they know the difference between fact and fiction, Harry Potter is fine.

This verse from the bible bring's up the reason why most of us christians don't loike Harry
Potter. I"m sure you'll speak against it but you asked, So i'm responding to your answer.

Deuteronomy 18 gives us absolute and undeniable direction concerning the occult.
Verses 9-12 state:

"When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices donation or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. (The End)

If your not sure what some of these words are please look them up like: sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Its not something that Christians practice.

Tell me about it! It's just a kiddie's book, people!!

I got written up while teaching private (non-Christian) school in Georgia for letting my 9th graders listen to the soundtrack from Harry Potter while doing seat work.

Harry Potter is full of more thatn latin phrases, again if you people would study you would know this.
The auther is a practicing witch, she has stated this publicly, and her spells and magic in her book are actuall spells form magic books any Wiccan or black magic witch can get ahold of. Again if you would study. Cinderella, sleeping beauty are no better any thing that portrays magic as good is a bad thing, the bible says there is no such thing as good magic, and that all sorcerers should be killed. Thank GOD that was in OT times. But it shows GOD"S view of it, and I like His better than yours.
There is a book called Harry Potter and the Bible, I suggest you read it.

Deuteronomy 18.9-12

"When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you [any one] that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, [or] that useth divination, [or] an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things [are] an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee."
