It works like this...you don't eat carbs, so there isn't any source of energy (glucose) coming in to your body...therefore, your body resorts to using fat as energy, which it can do, but it isn't as efficient as glucose would be. So, your body uses the fat for energy, and in turn, releases ketones, which can lead to ketosis. Bottom line is, this diet is NOT healthy...don't do it!

Works by making your body burn fat for energy. If you hold back the carbs your body has no choice than to burn fat for energy. You cut back to 0 carbs for 4 days during which time your body uses up all the carbs that you have been eating till now. So, after 4 days, no carbs left to burn, and fat starts burning. Carbs, when not used, turn to fat and fat does not turn to the fat in your blood. Carbs are being shown now to be the thing that affects high cholesterol and triglycerides. It is getting to sound to me that carbs cause a lot more body breakdown that we have been led to believe.

Horribly. Don't do it, there are much much healthier diets out there.

You don't eat carbs, which you need for energy, and are instructed to eat more red meat. Many people, especially older people, got heart problems because of all the meat.

i liked weight watchers, you can still eat bad food, just in moderation. with atkins you avoid anything with carbs. (bread, chips, crackers...). it's tough, but the results are good, i don't think it's very healthy.
