I'm currently eighteen and I feel like if I continue losing hair at a constant rate, I'll be bald by my twentieth birthday. It perplexes me. I used to have the thickest head of hair I had ever seen, and now I have average to thin hair. I've talked to a number of girls who have told me the same thing happened to them when they went through puberty.
What are, if any, the chemicals/horomones responsible for this madness?

My sister had this happen to her. She had what was called alopecia areata, and hers was believed to be caused by stress. I have read many different theories, but I am definitely not a great resource of information. I do not recall the treatment that she had, but I do know that she ended up cutting her hair very short. I know that she decreased her stress level and it ended up growing back.

It may be something else, but this is a good possibility. Take a look at these links to get more information and make an appointment with your physician.

There are ton of reasons from stress to hormones to thyroid problems. Some of them are rather serious and you should see your doctor to get checked out.
