My dog is in heat for the very first time and she went into season a week before her appointment to get spayed and its been 5 or 6 days since she is in heat.
and is it normal for her vulva to be swollen, no liquid or anything is coming out from it, but what do u reckon it is??
could she be preganant?
she is beginning to have nipples and we havent let her outside so no nieghborhood male dogs have been lurking around.
could it be a false pregnancy??
and a couple of days ago she threw up, is that normal?

im just really worried and hope she isnt pregnant.
anything would be helpful right now..

Thanks Shela

It is normal for the dog's vulva to be swollen when she goes into heat. A normal heat cycle last approximately 21 days. She may have started bleeding and you just haven't notice it because she' doing an excellent job licking herself clean.

You will need to be very careful and make sure she's not left alone because every dog i male dog in the neighborhood is going to be after her and you will end up with a pregnant puppy. If her heat cycle has not yet ended, and I'm presuming that it just stated, I highly doubt that she's pregnant.

As for the vomiting, I would call the vet the first thing in the morning, but the rest is perfectly normal. Most vets will not spay a female when she is in heat, but some will, so I would check with him about that as well when you call.

God luck. I hope you don't become a grandma -)

Yes that is normal for a dogs vulva to be swollen... it could remain that way for a few weeks. Some dogs have a discharge and some dont... mine for instance has a bloody discharge for 18 days! Just because she is in heat doesnt mean that she cant be fixed. And for that matter if she "just" got pregnant she can still be fixed. If you havent let her outside with access to any other dogs then you certainly dont have to worry with the pregnancy issue... my friend had a little long haired chihuahua that had a false pregnancy but it was her 8th heat cycle. Call a local vet for any questions they are usually very good at giving you answers to these types of questions over the phone. Good Luck!

As a former vet tech I can tell you that a swollen vulva is perfectly normal while in heat. it's just a part of it. Dogs are typically in heat for about 3 weeks. While they can do the surgery while they are in heat, it will be more expensive and there will also b e more blood loss because of the uterus being filled with blood.. I would wait until she is finished to have it done for her sake. It would be easier on her.
Keep her inside, generally the 2nd week of their cycle is when they are the most prone to getting pregnant. it only takes once! It's not good for dogs to get pregnant their first heat cycle either. they are too small and need to grow more.

Dog Training is all about getting your canine to behave well, but some people do it for sports and other entertainment purposes. Some of the other reasons people train their dogs are:

It rewarding since you get a sense of accomplishment once a dog can do something new.
It is a good opportunity to bond with the dog - this is important for the dog and for the owner.
You can make money when you train dogs as a business or for sport.
Training the dog is fun and it challenges the owner and the dog.
Different trainers have different techniques for training their canine. However, some techniques are more effective than others. To learn about the best techniques, visit a registered dog trainer, talk to a veterinarian, or do online or offline research.
There are several types of training that you, or a professional, can explore to train dogs and these are:

1) Behavior and obedience training: One training that is universal is behavior and obedience training. This is done on dogs of all ages, but it is better to start when the canine is a puppy because as they say, it is hard to teach old dogs new tricks. Behavior and obedience dog trainingbrings out the best in the dog and it makes understanding each other easier.

2) House training: House training is very important and it should also start when the dog is still a puppy. House training is all about training the dog to have house manners and to respect your space. There are several techniques used for this and they include crate training and pad training for training the dog to 'go' outside.

3) Positive reinforcement: Positive reinforcement is a new type of training approach and it is all about rewarding the dog for good behavior or for learning a new trick. All animals tend to perform better when there is a promise of a reward. Possible rewards are snacks, interaction with other dogs, giving the dog your attention, or giving the dog tug toys - the reward should take into consideration what the dog likes because dogs are different.

4) Negative reinforcement: Negative reinforcement training approach has been used for many years where the dog is punished for failure to learn or to behave properly, but this does not work because it only makes the canine scared and causes it to lose confidence. Negative reinforcement techniques included beatings and electric shocks.

5) Trick training: Trick training is done for fun, by those who want a sports dog, and those involved in other entertainment activities such as the circus. You should choose the dog carefully to avoid frustration because some dogs are easier to train than others.

6) Teething: It is important to train dogs when they are teething because they are under a lot of pain and they usually chew on furniture such as table legs, shoes, and even wallpaper. Possible training techniques for discouraging the chewing are bad-smelling sprays on items that are at risk and giving the dog chew toys.

7) Command training: It is possible to train dogs to follow commands. These commands include 'sit', 'attack', and 'fetch', among others. This requires patience and there are various techniques of dog training that can be used to achieve this such as giving rewards.

If the swelling of the vulva looks abnormal as opposed to normal swelling of a bit*ch in season, your friend should take the dog to the vet. Please ensure this dog is kept confined inside the house and taken outside on leash to toilet whilst she is in season. In fact the friend should book the dog in to be spayed. If this friend thinks they have a Toy Cocker Spaniel then she/he is sadly lacking in the dog knowledge department because there is no such breed. Also the correct name of the Cav is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. King Charles Spaniels are a separate breed to Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Please convince your friend to spay the little dog. There are far too many back yard breeders adding to the killing fields in the pounds as it is.
