The only thing that matters is in your heart. If you believe that you can repent, then why not do it? There is no right or wrong.

Always go to the bible for absolute truth. The bible says that it is appointed for man to die once and then judgment. That means, the point of no return is when you leave this earth. Until you do, God is always willing to forgive if you repent. Of course, you need to believe in Jesus as your savior.
If Jesus told us to forgive 70 times 7 of others...surely God would not forgive us any less?
Remember the parable of the two sons. The father told one son to go out and work in the field. He said no, I will not. But he thought better of it later, and went to do what his father asked.
He asked his other son, go work in the field. His son said, yes, I will do that right away. But he did not go work. Which would did the will of his father? The second one. If you come to God truly repentent, no matter how long it has been or what you have done, God will forgive you. How can you be assured? Because God's word tells you if you ask, you will be forgiven. And God is not man, that He should lie.

Perhaps you misunderstand the difference between forgiveness and repentance. God already forgives us anything we've done; most often we do not forgive ourselves, which is a whole different discussion.
Repentance means to turn and go in the other direction. That is the key part. If you repent and follow God from that day forward, then of course all is well, you are safe in God's hand.
An example of what I mean: A man cheats on his wife and begs her forgiveness. She accepts the apology and 6 months later, he does it again. He once again asks for forgiveness and she gives it. Another year goes by and he does it again. So I'll ask you, did he repent? No.

Easy. Jesus died for ALL sins, past, present, and future. This is not a license to sin but demonstrates how God's Grace system works. It is all based on Him, not the man. Genius! It's foolproof! We can't screw it up because God already accomplished all the work and He gets the credit.
While on the cross, God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. was punished for ALL of mankind's sins. He bore the penalty of our sins (spiritual death) in His body for 3 hours (from noon to 3:00 pm, according to the Word). After the three hours He regained His human spirit and died of his own freewill. Anyway, if you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ you shall be saved. He paid the price demanded by God the Father so that anyone who believes in Him shall have everlasting life in Heaven.
So the answer is yes, God has forgiven him as soon as he names his sins to God according to 1 John 1:9. If he fails to name his sins (the word in the King James in "confess", but that's not quite an accurate translation of the Greek "Homologeo"), he will still be saved but will not be "walking in the light", as John puts it. Also, "repent" simply means to change one's mind about something. It does not mean to beg and cry and kneel at an alter like so many Christians seem to think. i could go on...

Last night, I had someone contact me because they were concerned that they had "blasphemed the Holy Spirit" According to the Bible, this is the unpardonable sin.
This person was once a strong Christian but did rebel and got deeply into the occult. He wanted to know if it was too late for him to repent.
My answer to him was that if he had the least bit desire to return to the LORD...it was NOT too late. If anyone has committed the unpardonable sin, they would have no desire to repent and return to the LORD.

From my understanding, God will forgive the backslidder, if he or she comes to him and ask for forgivness and is truly sorry for the wrong committed. Doesn't matter what the sin is either as long as it is not "blasphemy" against the Holy Spirit. I'v been told there are ex- murders, rapist, prostitutes, pimps, drug dealers. theives, gamblers, wife abusers, and homosexuals (you name it) that have turned to God and been forgiven and even when some of these backslid, they were given forgivness when they returned to God and ask for forgivness.

The ultimate blasphemy is when you die in your sins without God. Now don't think just because you are alive now you will live a long life and have all the time in the world because we never know when we will die. So there is no better time than the presence to turn your life over to God. You could be gone tomorrow.

Until a person dies there is always hope for him to come back to God and have God forgive him!
What happens is that the person begins to backslide when they start to entertain sin and even though they keep asking God to forgive them they continue in their sin until the point that they are overtaken with their sin that they no longer ask Gods forgiveness!
When this happens they are totally backslidden and if they die in this state then they are without hope!

Um - the story of devil being an angel who rebelled and replaced into solid out of Heaven isn't Scriptural - not in the Bible in any respect. It replaced into made up by making use of a guy named Milton who wrote a delusion tale (study The Witch, The Lion and The cloth cabinet) mentioned as "Paradise misplaced".

Yes. or else God is a liar. and he isn't
EZE chap 18. says a righteous man that turns away from him must return or be condemned forever.
Book of Psalms:
King David my friend is the plainest example.
A man after God's own heart- A man whom God loved!
Yet David commits adultery and murder (plotted-and sent Uriah to his death) . Nathan the prohets warns David that God is going to punish him for this. David's Son infant dies.
David turns to God and says, "restore the JOY of MY SALVATION O'LORD" David was despondent=depressed=close to death. Instantly David was made anew.
Can one be assured. The very foundation of Gods word stands uopn it.
