It amazes me how much sugar is in one can of soda---much more than a box of candy or sometimes even a piece of cake. With Coke and Pepsi being mega-companies it seems to be no wonder that there is so much obesity and diabetes.
BTW, cinnamon and cinnamon suppliments drastically cut sugar cravings. It has helped me, a former candy junkie, a great deal.

Yes, Americans drink 50% of our needed daily calories. Think how many calories you'd save if you had water at lunch and dinner and not a soda or juice.

Soda does have huge amounts of sugar but diabetes is more complex than that. Usually it is a combination of many things that contribute to diabetes. Overloading yourself with sugar doesn't help. Exercise is the most important factor in preventing diabetes. Diet is important but means nothing if you are not active physically. People have to be conscious of all the things that contain sugar and the carbohydrates that turn to sugar. Also be aware of carbs that metabolize slower and are better for you. Processed corn sugars like in sodas are the worst poison. Ice Cream is death and is the worst of all things you can put in your body.

With 220-250 calories per can of soda there is no need to ask the question. Water is a good replacement.

Sodas with High Frutose Corn Syrup are the NUMBER ONE cause of obesity today. Not only are they empty calories, fructose is more easily converted to fat than sucrose.

Soda is no more of a culprit than any other sweets. Even if you cut soda out of your diet there's so much more to be had...cookies, cakes, doughnuts, ice cream, blah blah blah. People are always looking to blame someone other than themselves for a problem.

It does because I know people who have either completely or almost completely cut out soft drinks from their diets...and as a result they have lost up to 15 lbs....

However there are a lot of reasons contributing to these factors beyond soft-drinks as well....

Absolutely. And it's interesting to know that Coca-Cola has actually sponsored walks to raise money for diabetes.

"Once I saw Coca-Cola sponsoring a run to raise money for diabetes. It's sort of like having Hitler run the local Hanukkah celebration." -Mike Adams of Truth Publishing

Thanks for the cinnamon tip!

When I was in Weight Watchers, we went by points. Diet soda costed zero points. However, I do believe it's best without soda at all.
