I recently asked a question commenting on how muslims are always complaining and have a backward faith, i was inundated with responses telling me what an idiot i am. If i am incorrect i appologise but does it or does it not say in the muslim holy books that anybody who isnt of their faith must be killed by the sword and that a muslim woman cannot say no to sex with her husband EVER ( isnt this rape ). I called this a backward religion because i cannot think of any MODERN religion apart from the muslim faith that makes people fly planes into skyscrapers, blow up passenger trains or behead hostages on national tv for fun.

It's easy. I'm an American and I believe everyone should have the right to believe as they do, including me, an Atheist. I don't like it when people make laws that infringe on my freedoms based on their inability to control their own impulses, or children, which is why I am opposed to modern fundamentalist Christianity. Keep your beliefs to yourself and believe as you will. Just don't expect me to agree with you when asked.

#1, In the Muslims' holy book, the Quran, it says that Christians and Jews who do good go to the same Heaven that good Muslims go to. It also says that bad Christians, bad Jews, and bad Muslims all go to the same hellfire.

#2, In Islam, there are only three concrete things that you can do and be assured that you are going to Hell, 1) fornication 2) killing a person without reason (religion is not considered a legitimate reason) and 3) turning your back on God by converting out of the "correct path" or the path of doing good deeds.

#3, In Islam, a wife is allowed to refuse her husband, and if there seems to be a permanent problem, may choose to divorce her husband. Need I say Vice-Versa?

#4, No religion makes people fly planes into skyscrapers, blow up passenger trains or behead hostages on national tv for fun. Those terrorists grew up in, relative to the U.S., Hell. Either their parents taught them that America was the devil, or they have been stepped on so many times, that they have become wolves.
Religion doesn't teach people to do evil things. Evil people want to do evil things, and then try to interpret everything in a way that makes it seem as if they are doing the right thing.
If those terrorists where Christian for example, they would be claiming "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." All of those terrorists have had family members killed, and they believe that the cause of the deaths was America. The saying "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" does not promote evil, but evil people will use the quote as they will.

It does not say in the Koran that those who are not muslim should be killed by the sword. What it does say is that Muslim should have the right to fight those who seek to kill them because they disagree with their religion. In otherwords, it allows for defense of their religion, not offense. If you can find a passage from the Koran that contradicts this, feel free to provide it.

The Bible says that any child who disagrees with their parents should be stoned to death. It also says that men have the right to sell their female children into slavery. Furthermore, it says that a woman who is not a virgin before marriage should be killed. I would quote the passages, but I'm short on time, and considering you didn't take the time to quote any passages from the Koran, I see no reason to put in the extra effort. In the end, do we judge the religion based on these passages from the Bible?

Truth is, the two religions are not really all the different. It is relatively easy to point out the ugliness of Islam, but not all that much more difficult to do the same about Christianity. Both religions have and have had their fanatics. Read some history, and you will discover that Christianity is filled to the rim with brutal murders and torture in the name of God just as Islam is.

But again, your understanding of Islam is pretty primitive, akin to if I judged Christianity as a whole merely by pointing to the Inquistion or a modern day Christian cult.

Let's say you aren't incorrect but that you are the product of religious narrow mindedness. This doesn't mean that you are narrow minded, but how you were taught to look at things. The Muslim religion isn't anymore backwards that Christianity, nor are these two religions much different. What everyone is seeing is the radical side of the Muslim religion. Their practices aren't any weirder than Christians who handle poisonious snakes or that there should be no dancing or joyous noises. The basic Christian and Muslim can get along with each other. It is these radical groups within all religions that make all religions look bad.

I'm a Pagan and we are condemned in writing in the Bible, so there is another example of religions teaching hate and intolerance.

Saw your challenge and was curious if I could do it...
You have a good point - about the minority of Muslims.
Muslim majority are not taking part in any of the activities you mention. So of course everyone that responded to you in a negative way had a point too.
So far you a failing to see the minority that is high jacking a whole people. Keep the good people in your prayers - as they are doubly in danger, ignorance from outsiders and pressure from the fanatics (that may be too close to stop).
Try and think about the Catholic fanatic time (Spanish Inquisition) a Catholic could disappear just as easily as a Muslim today, for the same reason (or lack of reason). Catholics survived a very bad time in history, Muslims are just starting theirs? (of course I don't know this - but it looks similar?)???
Catholics had a meeting and reviewed everything about being Catholic, and basically pushed restart button. Right?
Muslims need to do this eventually, and until they do - it's going to be a bumpy ride.
Just a rambling thought. How'd I do?

Do you know any Muslims??? It would seem not.You are basing your opinion on a few facts.Learn the more about what your talking about before you judge someone on what they believe.
Also if you was raised Muslim and thought the ways you would find Christian beliefs wrong.Just because what someone else believes is different then what you have been taught dons't make it wrong just different.
Also not all Muslims believe in flying planes in skyscrapers
Look at your own religion.People who play with snakes, bombing abortion clinics, faith healers.
Every religion has fanatics

I think the reason people would be offended is that although you may not agree with all of their beliefs, and they may seem comletely ridiculous, it is still a religion that many people around the world choose to follow, and they believe it is the truth, just as any religious person believes they are following what is true.
My faith has many principles that seem backward as well (I'm a Christian) but it makes sense to me. An example of this is that Jesus taught us to love our enemies. This goes against the human tendency to hate those who do wrong to us. But I've learned that it's really rewarding when we learn to love and forgive unconditionally.

Also, it is the extremists that blow things up. Many muslims don't agree with terrorist acts, so I don't think we should generalize and say that they're all violent.

I completely agree with Enise for one of your questions.
the 2nd one about sword and Killings, there is NO WHERE in QURAN that says that non muslims should be killed- NOWHERE. that and some extent the rape thing is-are stories made up by Islam enemies, just have some Muslim Teacher briefly explain to you the basic teachings of islam for about 30 minutes, (make sure he is a Muslim). and soon you will find out that almost everything in the media is inflated to work against the Muslims.

Yes it is.

Everything that you have quoted is not stated in the Quran you must agree that from any of the Abrahamic books you can make of any verse what you will.
The illegal wars carried out in Muslims countries to gain wealth and oil are all done in the name of Christianity,George bush and is lapdog personally say god instructed them to carry out these wars.
We do not have a backward faith,if you do not understand our faith there is no need to defend it we can do that ourselves.
I am a Muslim and believe that everyone has the right to there own belief or non belief.

Theres no such verse in the Quran that says women cannot say No to their husbands.

It only says they should not if they dont have a good reason for it, because a woman is her husbands protector from evil, and we all know what men do when they cant get any from their wives.

Also, rape is a huge sin in islam, the only country that practices islamic law to the maximum (and by that I dont mean fully) Saudi Arabia, rape, drug trafficking and murder are a cause for execution.

Which 'modern' country answers the plea of a woman who thinks her rapist shouldnt walk around free??

Think about that...

Because when people are racist they don't realize it, they think it is justified, and we condemn racists and prejudges comments to hopefully exposed a person to himself or herself.
But I'm not going to attempt to change you mind, I will just distant myself from you because all prejudges are falsehood and people who gravitate towards that way of thinking are lost but do not realize it. Love opens your eyes and ears, and without love, actual knowledge, and understanding in your heart you will continue to perpetuate evil ideas of a large groups of people.
That my friend is called prejudices. Say No to Satan.

Whoa, the women above just layed some Heavy Revelation down!

PS: READ THIS:

[4:19] O you who believe, it is not lawful for you to inherit what the women leave behind, against their will. You shall not force them to give up anything you had given them, unless they commit a proven adultery. You shall treat them nicely. If you dislike them, you may dislike something wherein GOD has placed a lot of good.

The Winners

[9:71] The believing men and women are allies of one another. They advocate righteousness and forbid evil, they observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and they obey GOD and His messenger. These will be showered by GOD's mercy. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise.

[9:72] GOD promises the believing men and the believing women gardens with flowing streams, wherein they abide forever, and magnificent mansions in the gardens of Eden. And GOD's blessings and approval are even greater. This is the greatest triumph.
