I find myself to be a relatively slow reader. It's not intentional, of course, but I sometimes spend a little too long on sentences, and I know for a fact I can read faster (but it's not intuitive).

What would you recommend (hints, provide links, etc.) to improve my reading speed and ability? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

don't spell every word, even in your tought
read with your eyes only
it is ok to miss some word, your tought can filll the missing links

for a scientific story, read the first line and the bottom line, there is the most / only important thing to be spotted.

the back draw of this technique? when speaking, sometimes the mouth seem off from your tought.....

Well, for techinical books I suggest PhotoReading program:

http://www.stevepavlina.com/photoreading/

It let's you fly through textbooks and retain information like none other.

For fiction I'd say pick up a normal book on speedreading and that will help some.

One thing you can try now is while you read is to move your hand quickly across the page like you are wiping sand off. This motion alone forces your eye to keep up with your hand and you read about twice as fast right off.

By the way, if the photoreading program is too expensive you can torrent it at torrentspy.com.

Hope this helps!

This is no joke - PRACTICE!

Read more often. Read anything you can get your hands on. Even if its one chapter of a cheap drugstore novel... read it!

Read an article out of the paper or some old textbooks.... the more you read and the more variety of things you read will all help to increase your comprehension rate - and ultimately increase your reading speed.

Someone taught me years ago to learn to read without reading all of the words. Let me attempt to explain.

There is a lot of fluff in writing. You can learn to skip the fluff and concentrate on the important stuff.

I can now read books and magazines much faster.
