Churches can be corrupt, sure. Jesus ran into that back in His day. Churches are run by people and if those people aren't fervently seeking to serve others and not themselves, greed can take hold and affect their decisions.
Conversely, there are lots of churches with reasonable budgets. They collect money from those believers who freely give it to pay for their own expenses and to give to the needy. Many churches do a lot to help out the poor and reach out to people in their own communities and abroad.
I'm a Christian and have the attitude that everything I own really belongs to God. He is the reason that I have the ability to draw my next breath. He is the reason that I have health and the ability to keep my job and earn my money in the first place. So really, when I tithe, I'm just giving back part of what God has blessed me with. It's an exercise in faith and putting my money where my mouth is. I belong to a church whose leadership I trust and whose budget primarilly funds missions overseas. To be honest though, I'd never give my money to a church I didn't respect or a crazy tele-evangelist like Benny Hinn.

Churches don't get rich, they dispense it to the poor, widow, and charity.
HOWEVER,I believe that some churches have lost the meaning of tithing. In the push to make sure the church gets money,it makes it a requirement to give money to the church!
I don't believe this!
I believe that we are to give what god blesses us to give, not that we must give money because the law says so!
MOST CHURCHES ARE GOOD AND DON'T DO THIS!
Of course,if you pick my answer,I will probably get some Christians in an uproar over tithing,TOO BAD!!!
I tell it like I call it,you don't like my answer then don't read it!
God Bless

Jesus said the "love of money" is the root of all evil, not that money was evil. He condemns those rich people who are worldly and have no desire to help others with the money they have made. There are wealthy people who give a great amount of money to help others and He does not condemn them.
The reason churches collect money is not only to pay their pastor a reasonable salary just as people in other careers need a salary to support their family, but more importantly to send people out to other countries to feed and clothe starving people, to build homes, water wells, build clinics, and hospitals.... as well as to send people to areas of the USA where there is devastation due to hurricanes, tornadoes, and other natural disasters in order to help them clean up their properties, buy supplies, and to help them build a new home. This is where our churches money goes. Each of us chooses to give back to God, through the church, a portion of what we receive in thanks for what He (God) has done for us. Most of us don't stop there, we also give anonymously to those we meet who are in need. No one forces anyone to give, we give freely as God has blessed each of us.
Please, if you don't belong to a church and know where their money is being spent, then why judge?

If churches did not take an offering, those who work in full-time ministry would not get paid. It is not because they are greedy, but many ministers work really hard in ministry, sometimes even outside of their local church. They cannot continue to do the work they do without support from the church.

Because they've got the wool over everyone's eyes. And it's been going on for 2,000 years. It's not about the Lord. It's about who can I swindle out of 10% today.
