State your case that you appreciate that they give you an allowance but you feel that you want to earn some money on your own. Offer that if your grades slip that you will quit. Most states have limits on when kids can work such as how many hours and what time. In Massachusetts i think a minor can only work until 9pm. Tell your parents that you would like to be able to contribute to some of the things they are currently paying for. Such as your car insurance on your vehicle and put some of it away in a savings account. Good luck!

If you are carrying a full load they are just afraid you will suffer... there are many ways that it could happen.... burn out, grades, lose of energy, eating disorders, lose of sleep, etc.... they are just doing their jobs by protecting you, so do not be so hard on them...... If you realy want to work, maybe you need to rethink the load you carry at school ?? maybe a club or 2 or after school activity ?? Is there anything you are doing that is not a part of your future needs ?? Write down and discuss with your parents the whys of the job you want.... list ALL your school activities, putting them into order of importance to you, and talk about which ones you might could give up and why..... then make a plan for it all to fit, what hours you would like to work, what you would do with any extra time on your hands,etc..., make a formal and wise argument on your own behalf, then take to them for OPEN and HONEST and RESPECTFUL discussion....... God bless

They are right. don't that suck?
Statistically if you work your grades go down, and can you really afford that? All too soon you will know the joys of the 9-to-5 and you have the rest of your life to rue it.
It not the same as your own money, I understand that, but really if you start making money then you should start paying for your rent, food and utilities, that's the bad part of making money...being responsible. Enjoy what you have now, and if you think its not enough, remember, it never will be.

have a family sit down, and talk about how it will help you learn to save and spend money tell them it will teach you to be responsible and independent with your own money unless how ever they don't want you to be smart with money stay at home and sponge off them i'm sure if you say that to them they will let you get a job Even if its part time its better then nothing GOOD LUCK

You need to sell it to them that you are looking to get some experience in the workplace. Make it seem like it's very important for you in order for you to succeed in the future. Don't make it about money.

When you go in to ask for money, double what you want..! Then every time you want more money, (which should be constantly) double it each time!!
Either you'll break them into letting you support your own habits..or you'll break their account!!

Show them you are capable of concentrating on school and work. Don't let either slip. School is most important though.

keep your grades up and show them you are trustworthy and start by helping a little around the house, and show them that you take your schooling serious, maybe they will let you work on the weekend part time.....
