Can I do murals that have our favorite (or least fav) cartoon characters or is that a no-no because of copywrite?

I lnow a mural is usually a "grand thing" but you can make them anyway you want. You can do things like paint frames on the walls and give them a continuous theme and look, you can do a small mural to look like a window where there isn't one. They don't always have to take up a whole wall. But, of course it's awsome when they do.....

if it is for a private homeowner not in a public place you do not need to worry about copyrights since the private homeowner is using it for decoration not profit.Consider moving to full scale wall murals quickly as themoney is much better. If youre good the jobs will find you , if you do one mural in someones home in a neighborhood , that one home will get you 5 more. Good luck

In the first place, by definition, a mural is not a small picture. A mural is a grand sweeping work of art that encompasses the lifetime achievement of the artist. It would go without saying that cartoon characters are out. So, a mini-mural with cartoon characters would be impossible.

The copyright is also an issue. Are you going to sell these paintings? Are you willing to pay royalties for these paintings? Most small time artists would not have to worry about such things, as they are not going to be famous until they are dead. If, on the other hand, you achieve fame and fortune before your demise you may have to contend with some legal entanglements. If you use Disney characters, you may as well devote yourself to a life of servitude to the Disney company.

That would be a no-no because of the copywrite.
Maybe you could check on the copywrite and get permission. The only thing then I would suppose you may have to share the money you make with the copywrite holder! Would it be worth all this hassle??

You must have some artistic talents to even be considering going into this field. Why do cartoon figures that anyone with an overhead projector can do themselves? Show your own talent and creativity. You'll find it so much more rewarding.

Authors hold copyrights on their characters and will probably be reluctant to give you permission to draw them. You could ask, but the answer will probably be "no". You can draw them without asking, but if you are successful, you will start getting calls from their lawyers.
