What do you think of getting rid of all other taxes and just having an elevated sales tax paid when something is purchased ,other than food, that way rich, poor, native or immigrant all contribute equally. no more free ride for imigrants and tax breaks for the rich all pay same rate on material goods.think it would work. Also how about consolidated military? how much tax money is wasted on different branches of the service advertising and competeing for your enlistment.

as far as the poor people i can understand your point. I didn't grow up rich. but I still believe it would be of benefit to them. how about no more property tax or food tax. And I don't see why we can't cover medical expences. In my opinion all doctors should be goverment emploees and I believe we could cover this with national revenue. I'm just you average joe but to me it makes since

In referece to the military it's just like any company you have departments. where would the complications be if our leaders can't figure out that a pilot belongs in a plane then its all hopeless anyway

It's a brilliant idea, and there are a lot of people pushing for it.

Check it out at: fairtax.org

Read the real facts. Don't listen to the people who are against it because they keep lying about the details. EVERYONE will receive a "tax rebate" check to cover the cost of necessities (food, clothing, etc.). The poor will pay no taxes unless they buy luxuries. Drug dealers, prostitutes, and other criminals will pay taxes.

It would be another way to hurt the poor. They could hardly afford a car now, how about after you tax the hell out of it. or a house, there goes the American dream. You expect the poor to pay the same % in taxes, as multi millionaires. Actually the poor would pay more in taxes then the wealth as they can't afford to put money into savings, and spend a higher % of there income on necessities. nor could they afford to go over seas to spend money.
Consolidate the military, how would a recrute determine where he would want to go. A person interested in flying planes would not want to be transferred to the Marines etc.
That's my thinking.

Well, I like the sales tax idea, regardless of immigration, but it doesn't change the fact that poor people just don't make enough to pay tax in ANY fashion sufficient to cover their education and services. That is why we limit how many can come. We have a need for those limits as a glance at schools in border states will show you. We need those limits to be enforced.

Regarding poor people I have seen this idea modified so those who make below a certain amount can claim a refund, with receipts. It doesn't work with people who are paid under the table, of course...

i dont really think it would make much difference in the taxes just hurt the people who cant afford any more taxes, and lets face it the immigrants that hold jobs and pay income taxes and medicare and state taxes never get to file for refunds because there here illegally so if they could change it they defiantly would as far as the military goes no comment

The Sales tax would be somewhat expensive, possibly more than 100%. Wages could have to double and it would be in the government's best interrests to punish the wealthy as wealth would no longer mean greater contribution to society. The tax would be simple to avoid. Anyone who wanted to buy things tax-free would simply purchase goods abroad destroying American retail commerce. Maybe we shouldn't fix things that aren't broken.

I'm against the consolidation of the military. Leave them alone. Clinton almost destroyed our military. They all serve a purpose, each and every one of them. You really think the chump change that is spent on advertising would be such a saving as the cost it would be to consolidate 5 branches that all have completely different missions?

It is certainly worth exploring. The million dollar yacht could bring in a lot of money from someone that would never miss it.

I think a national sales tax is an excellent plan. Elected officials who bring it up always seem to get "hushed" up right away.

I don't think it would be sufficient to cover many governmental appropriations.

Sounds great, but the people that are milking the money from our government will never let it happen.
