I believe God requires people to walk in the light that has been given them. If a society had many gods such as the Egyptians did, if someone said....hey, why should I worship all of these things because it does not make sense to worship a cat as a god when there are thousands of them. Jesus said if we seek the truth, we will find it. I have no doubt that applied throughout time.
Also, you need to check your time line. Abraham came before Joseph was sold into slavery and was taken to Egypt.
Noah also told many about GOD for 120 years as he was building the ark but only eight were saved.
The question is...are you going to be one of those saved today? Check the link below.

The God of Abraham (the same God as He who created the Universe) revealed Himself to Adam and Eve in a very special way! That was only about 2000 years earlier.
Many other ways and many other times that same God revealed Himself to many peoples ... including to Noah.
God revealed Himself; people chose to worship and sacrifice to their pagan gods.
He sent the Prophets; eventually He sent His only-begotten son [in the "fullness of time"].
Those earlier humans chose to worship other than the Creator. Not unlike many in the year 2006, who prefer to ridicule and blaspheme the Holy One of Israel.

Maybe to God 4000 years isn't such a long time?
God observed mankind for awhile and took a few up to heaven without their having to die. He just took them.
After a time He decided to send his Son to see if it is possible for mortal man to obtain heaven and what the problem was on earth.
If you remember Jesus makes a statement that no one is capable of reaching the Father accept though Him.
Thus forgiveness of sins and baptism came about.
When Jesus died this was not just another falsely accused innocent man being crucified.
Just as He die the ground broke open and all the dead in Christ walked the earth for three days.
The dead came out of the earth and walked among the living. Got it?
This little fact has been grossly overlooked and
books written about this have been destroyed but it is still there in the Bible.
Before this time once you died you remained dead.
From that point on man was born with the knowledge of God. No man had to tell us about Him as we are all born with that knowledge in us.
Some of us chose to use that knowledge and our freewill to find God by way of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, baptism and forgiveness of sins. Others are born into submission and afraid to use freewill. Those are the ones who are being challenged.
And thus you can read into this the meaning of 'The Last Shall be First and the First Shall be Last.'

This question is very complex....I can narrow it down a little...but! we shall never know the heart and mind of God.
In His ways, we may see mistakes...but in fact God knows long before we could ever even consider.
We live in a space that has 'time'...and it is very limiting...So without getting into a science mode...I can tell you God works not only on feelings...but Science. There is a method-to-all-HE-does.
One can ask, but weather we will get the answer...and! is it our 'right' to-know-the-answer.
Look at it this way: say you have children who ask you about your morgage?..they want to know all about it.
You as a father say...''look I feel you just would not understand''....and they ask, and keep asking.
You know you can tell them....and you do!
Only to be left, with their little faces...in complete confusion.
You fully understand the workings of the morgare concept!!
But....is impossible for the kids.
I wish I can give you a different example...but this one is as good as I can.....We are adults...but compaired to God...we will never understand fully....because ''we would need the mind of God''.

Noah knew God, and so did his sons. The people you mention were all descended from them and so they rejected God early on. And for this reason they and their children were condemned by God, though if even one changes heart that one turns things around for their children.
Numbers 14:18
'The LORD is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation.'

Man was left to rule himself. For all these years to show our dependance on God's rule. We can look back and see where we went wrong. They may and probably will be resurrected when the earth is a paradise and taught the truth about god.
But we can see that all forms of governement have been tried unsuccessfully and man needs his creator to rule the world.

Did it occur to you that the God of Abraham was also the God of Adam and Eve? (pre-pagan)

There is no point in conjecturing about the past when you don't have the complete information. Consider what you have got in your life, explore that and find out the truth.
Man has this tendency of being nit picky about things in the past inspite of the fact that he doesn't know everything about the past.

Good question. The answer is Yahweh wasn't invented yet. You can't have Abraham before Yahweh. So mankind had to wait until the Israelites invented their God and then proceeded to make up the rest of the Old Testament.
