Help!

My 2001 Mitsubishi Galant 6 cylinder failed the yearly inspection.

The only thing printed out on the sheet that showed a "fail" was an OBD-II test result indicating "MIL Commanded-On" but I don't know what that means.

The yellow warning light on the dashboard has been on (seek engine help soon), and my own OBD-II show a code of P0135 (Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction).

Is the "MIL Command-On" and the P0135 code related?

Is this an easy repair to replace the Oxygen Sensor.

With a little direction, I can fix most anything.

Thank you

When I go to the parts store, what exactly do I ask for?

When looking at the engine from the front, facing the windshield, where do I find the 3 Oxygen sensors to replace?

I checked on the internet and found a site called DRIVEWIRE that lists the Oxygen sensors for the Mitsubishi Galant at costing ~ $100.00 each. Does that sound correct?

there is three sensors on this car . if you don't know which one is bad you would have to replace all three. they are located in the exhaust system. just screw out and replace.

Well, MIL stands for "Malfunction Indicator Light"...I'm assuming "Commanded-On" means it has been turned on because of an error that has been detected, so I would say it's very safe to say the code is related to the light being on.

As far as replacing the oxygen sensors, it is very easy. On most cars, there is a quick-connect to connect the car's wiring to that of the sensor. You simply disconnect the quick-connect, unscrew the old sensor, screw the new one in (checking for correct torque specs), and reconnect the wiring.

po135 means the right bank heated oxygen sensor is showing to be shorted or the heater circut is not working.
the oxygen sensor is the one between the firewall and the moter, its the one at the top of the manifold before the cat converter, the pug in should be on the pass side of engine compartment tworda the front of the valve cover in ythe rear

Their should be one on each manifold and either by the catalytic converter or the muffler. If you tell the parts store like Auto Zone the code it gave you on the paper they can probable tell you witch senser it is to, they also have a computer that can tell you what that light means and a code will print out for them a code just like you got from the inspection people and they will tell you what it means and what you need..

The computer they hook up to your car will be on the inside probable under the steering wheel and they will have you turn the switch on to were all your lights will come on but you don't need to start it, its pretty simple.

And it is FREE wont cost you anything!!
