Ingorance. If you don't learn, history repeats itself. Should anyone really forget history? I think history is what makes up a country, and is important. I think whoever says that history in not important is just stupid and doesn't want to face the truth. This is not just my opinion. It's a fact.

I am not saying to dwell on the past. I am saying it should be aknowledged, and certainly not forgotten. If you forget the past, how will you learn from your mistakes?

Because for most, they don't want to know the real truth....The real truth is ugly and shameful....That would be like looking inside one's soul....But your right, for me it is about hypocrisy and a state of denial....sad

You are right. When people forget history they can make a lot of bad decisions and cause more problems. The best recent example of this was in the recent war in Lebanon when George Bush said "The root cause is Hezbollah..." This is a statement which is totally ignorant and illustrates a complete failure to understand the history of the conflict. Bush was taking an event from a week or so prior and calling that the cause of the whole problem when in fact nothign could be further from the truth. In this Bush is stupid, or if not, then he assumes that the American people are stupid enough to believe his nonsense (and sadly, a great many are). You can take a lot of things Bush says and if you hold them up against the historical record he is just plain wrong, yet NO ONE challenges him. Maybe we are all brain dead.

Because if we look too close at history, we find too many lies and no real truths to what we are doing today. It scares the hell out of everyone to think that everything they do is based upon a lie; the lie that there is any difference at all between people of the same species. When they break through that lie, then they have to look at the lie that some magical SkyBuddy is waiting with open arms to give us happiness forever after we have destroyed our own supporting planet under the lie that people are different from any other form of Life.
Then there is the lie that competing with nature or each other is the best way to create a future.
All of this comes from studying history, and nobody wants to 'see' that stuff.
This, I think was one of the best questions I've seen in a while. Thank you.

I don't believe anyone is saying to forget history. It's just that trying to make up for the mistakes of our ancestors is impossible and unfair to many people today who have done nothing wrong.
Yes, we need to remember our history so that we don't repeat it, but we also can't live there.

History is important, but historical origins of ancestors of current residents in this country are not relevent to the question of illegal immigration today. Too many things are different, starting with population and funded programs. You can't have both subsidized education much less aid to dependants, and open immigration.
They cost us money. They ruin our children's schools by their sheer numbers and poverty. Your 'historical' argument that when there were no laws we all were in the same position is nuts.

You are 100% correct. And I assume that you are smart enough to discern when history is being re-written for a PC point. It would seem that for many history began at about the time they were born. Sad really

Don't forget history, but learn it correctly and learn where you came from.
MOST of us came after the slavery and the wars, etc.
MOST of us came LEGALLY!!
The past is no excuse for ILLEGAL immigration. Being poor is not excuse. Do these things give a citizen the right to commit crimes?

Nein, we would desire to consistently on no account neglect the Holocaust. Why would we neglect this testomony of what German engineering can do in this manner of huge scale? Why would desire to we neglect how immediately the Germans rebuilt their society after the Allies tear it aside? Why would desire to we neglect how the eastern pulled off that sneak attack with Pearl Harbour which the Muslims copied with 9-eleven? we would desire to consistently on no account neglect historic previous.
