my cat gave birth to 3 beautiful kittens a little over an hour ago. i stroked her belly after awhile to see if there were any more kittens in her. well, i've stroked her a few times and my mother has, and we both feel a 4th kitten. it's now over an hour later, and she still hasn't give birth to it. how can we help her get it out?!

Well I had to write because two answers with the opposite advice is probably making you even more crazy. What I would do is call your vet's office or an emergency animal hospital. They may not be there, but someone is on call and will call you back and advise you of what to do. This is a cat, they have natural instincts in birthing. You are probably causing her more stress by being there. Although she loves you, she really doesn't want you near those babies right now. Call a professional and get advice that will help you sleep tonight.
Good Luck!

If the cat is in heavy labor (panting, and obvious contractions) for over an hour with no kitten production, please take her to the vet.

If she is relaxed, and isn't showing signs of distress, you can probably give it a little time (maybe another hour) and then, if no kitten in 2 hours, get her to the vet.

The kitten could be stuck in the birth canal, and could die. It could also have detrimental effects on the mother.

Good luck to you, and give your momma kitty a belly rub for me.

I wouldn't touch the kitten or the cat!! In a few hours she will have the kitten most likely, if by tomorrow morining nothing happens call your vet and ask quesitons. Give her time and I wouldn't mess with her, let her be stress free and take her time!! Good luck!

just like people birth can take a while.... but if she's in pain or seems to be acting weird, then i would get her to the vet... but i would hang aorund and try to keep an eye on her and see if she needs your assistance but if it takes a while for the new kitty to come out she should have regained her strength by then...if it dosen't come out on it's own soon or naturally then you meed to get her to the vet you could loose the new kitten and mom...

I can't tell you a thing. Just make sure it's a kitten and not the afterbirth which they end up eating I believe. Maybe you should let her alone for a while. Good luck.

take her to the vet if she looks to be in distress. Don't wait too long or the kitten may die!
