My foster mum taught me to cook about 4 or 5, but I cooked my first main meal by myself when about 10. I have way to many cook books, but have used them all at some stage. But I love creating my own recipes.
My daughter started to cook when 2, (making packet cake mixes) and she cooked her first main meal unassisted at 12 years old, I was very unwell and she was hungry lol, her father was at work. Not bad for a young person who has ADHD and learning difficulty's.

I was probably about 9 or 10- wanted to make cookies or some such....
I got a lot of cook books when I got married.... I rarely use them- usually cook by taste, or imagination...
Chili-Cheese Potato Casserole
1 can Chili (favorite variety or brand- I use Nally's)
1 small can cream of mushroom soup
1 cup shredded Cheddar
6 or 8 potatos- scrubbed or pealed (your choice) and sliced 1/4 to 1/8 inch thick
Another 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar
In a large mixing bowl, mix chili, soup, and 1st cup of cheese. Fold in sliced potatos. Dump into a greased or sprayed 9x13 pan. Top with 1/2 cup cheese. Cover with foil (I spray the bottom side of the foil to prevent bubbling cheese from sticking.) Bake at 350 for 1 hour....
Take a bath, vacuum the floor, do the dishes, whatever....
After 1 hour is up, take foil off, turn off heat, and return it to oven. Prepare your chosen vegetable/salad, set table. Pull casserole out, set on table and enjoy!!!

I started cooking breakfast for my family when I was 9 years old. I'd making scrambled eggs on toast and pancakes from the mix. I started showing interest in baking when I was about 10 years old. The first thing I baked were butter cookies. Now, I'm baking things like chocolate cake and pumpkin pie and making pancakes from scratch!
It's cool that you invented your own recipes. I've been wanting to do that too.

I learned how to cook starting around age 8 or 9. I used to help my grandmother with small meals and snacks. As I matured, I "graduated" into making full-course meals and even a couple Thanksgiving dinners.
She has now passed away. Unfortunately, I no longer prepare meals...except for holidays and when I get sick of take-out.

I was probably about 12, when I learned to be able to cook all the time, but I was helping way before that.

As a kid, I was only interested in baking. Didn't really learn to cook until I went away to college and had to. I'm still learning new things, although being single, I don't cook a lot.

started to learn at an early age also maybe 7 or 8, my mom always thought it was important to teach children how to be self-sufficient, not that she didnt cook for all of us, but she wanted us to know how to do things for ourself (very valuable lesson), but as far as the cooking- i am still learning some things, and why is it that certain things just never come out as good as mom's?????
and lately i am either cooking as fast as i can dial or having to do a "drive-by fooding"--but i bet your recipes are good-- you should have a net party and invite all of us over to sample the goods.
