thanks for all your answers, very thought-provoking. ok, now, let's say that i am not a christian and due to me being very hard-headed i don't presently want to become one. i pray to god every night, would it help if i asked him to soften my heart and help me have the will and desire to become a christian? like i said, i'm very hard-headed, the only thing that will get me to change my ways is if god intervenes. if i pray about it, do u think he will do it?

Mystery Guest,
If He wants you, He will do it. He could have inspired your question just now.

The question is, do you WANT to come to Him? If so, that's Him drawing you in.

GOD is your bestfriend. It is clearly stated in the bible that "Seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be open unto you, ask and it shall be given unto you." just pray to God always. Pray that he will send you an angel that will protect you in every danger might come into your life. Pray that he will give you the wisdom of life. Yes! it will help a lot to soften your heart and to know what is the right and the wrong act. You said that you are a hardheaded. It will change only by your own self. Do your move. Act now. Do your's and God will do the rest. As an adage says "If there is a will there is a way" Good luck1

Well now this is a different story. You say you don't want to become a Christian, but you pray to God every night. If you are such a caring person to take time to pray to God everynight, then in your sub-concsious mind, you are truely a child of God. You have God in your thoughts and heart. Keep praying what you have said and if your sincere, then in time you will get an answer. If you pray with total love and thought of God, then yes, He will do it. Rome wasn't built in one day. You must keep letting God know that your wanting to be with Him. Read the New Testement and do it every night before you go to bed. Then Lay down and hold the Bible on your chest. Think of God, and ask him what you want to ask. Also ask Him to fogive you for all your sins and protect you from satan. Ask Him to guide you and allow you to follow in His footsteps. I have a strong feeling that you are a Christian. Take care and may God bless you, Always !!

God will lead you to Him when it's time. If you're already talking about prayer, then you must believe in God and that's a huge
start. Remember that your prayers won't be answered if there's sin in your life; the sin needs to be repented, and forgiveness asked. You really have to be sorry for your sins and discontinue doing anything sinful.

I think that if you pray and if you really want God to lead you, he will, but it might be very subtle. Maybe you should pray for God to lead you to a church that you can become a part of. Being a Christian not only means believing the Bible is the inspired book of God, it means worshiping Him as well, and it means maturing in your Christianity and getting to know God better and better. That's where the church can be a huge help. I think that praying by yourself will and should lead you to others who can support you.

God isn't going to strike you with lightening, or anything like that.
Christianity is a thing of faith.

Prayer is a good place to start. It is the lifeblood of a Christian. God will not force you to change your ways. However, there are numerous instances on record where God has revealed himself to unbelievers who have prayed earnestly for just such a revelation.

Here is one instance: The richest caveman, the Doug Bachelor story. (Available at Amazon.com)

Here is another: Best seller by Clifford Goldstein (Amazon.com)

Reading the Bible with a sincere, teachable spirit is another great place to start. "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" Rom. 10:17

The Bible specifically says that no man comes to God unless He is personally drawn by Him. In protestant circles we call it being under conviction. The Holy Spirit works to draw you into that personal relationship by revealing to you your need of a Savior. Why do we need a Savior? SIN. It separates us from God. God may soften your heart to Him, but He will not force you into this relationship. God is a gentleman,,,"Behold I stand at the door and knock..." only when You invite Him into Your life will He come in.

it depends on you- only God knows your heart. If you are truly seeking TRUTH and are willing to put aside your own thoughts, ideas and beliefs for the sake of the truth , then yes, God will reveal that truth to you. If you are set on holding on to your own ideas no matter what then you will have a little bit harder time 'getting it'
If you are sincere in your search for the truth, you will find the truth

this is a trick question. If u don't want to becone one. Why would u be praying to god. Also it is the person who changes him or herself not god. You forget the freewill part. If god intervenes, he has removed your right to freewill. I belive that might be a paradox

Hey...God calls each of us. You don't have to "change your ways" to become a Christian.

You need believe in your heart of hearts that Jesus is God, that He suffered and died as blood atonement for your sin and rebellion. God will convict and deal with you as far as your sin, and that is between you and God.

I am praying for you, my friend...

I hear you are hard headed, but remember the Lord doesn't make you do anything. You have to have a willing and open spirit. He can intervene in any situation, but he doesn't make you do anything.

YES! You are wise to recognize that you need God's help in turning your life over to Him. May I also suggest that you ask God to reveal to you any sin in your life that you need to confess. Sometimes we don't even realize something is a problem until we ask for it to be revealed to us.

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
