When does life begin? When does abortion take a life? Partial birth abortion? The earliest recorded premature birth? Could that child have been aborted? These questions can go on forever. Does abortion end a human life?

My dear Skippy, not all cultures consider killing a 1 year old is wrong. Some Amazonian tribes believe that the soul is not complete until after the 1st year. See Yanomano Tribes of the Amazon.

PLEASE READ:

Medically, if something is carrying on metabolism, it is alive. Something is alive if it carries on metabolism and is dead if it doesn't. Since single cells can carry on metabolism, then yes, a new life is created by fertilization. Two different lifes come together to form a new one. This new life has a part of the DNA of each of the old lifes, but through their union, it becomes a new life with new DNA.

So yes, a human life begins with fertilization, and yes abortion ends that human's life. It might be called an embryo or a fetus, but it is still human just as a child, teen, adult, or elderly is, those are just different terms used for different ages in the human life- but throughout it all, it is still human life.

And since we have defined murder as one human ending the life of another, then abortion is murder.

As for my opinion on abortion, I think it should only be legal under several conditions:

a) A doctor can prove that by carrying the baby, a life-threatening situation exists for the woman.

b) There is a 24-48 hour waiting period before any procedures are taken towards the abortion, that is unless it is an absolute emergency.

c) The woman who must have the abortion is alerted of what might happen if she has the operation performed, and also what problems may occur if she chooses to carry the baby.

d) If a woman is raped by force, and she becomes empregnated, she may choose to have an abortion, but since it is not an emergency, she must wait a certain set time period before having the operation to think about the decision. She must be made aware of all alternative possibilites.

e) Also, women need to be made aware of the MENTAL side effects of having an abortion, not just the physical ones. They need to be made aware of the stress, depression, anxiety, regret, and much more that women who have had an abortion experienced after they had it.

f) And in any case an abortion is performed, the doctor or team of doctors must write a report on why they did it, why they felt it had to be done, how they did it, what the conditions of the woman were, what the conditions of the baby were, etc. It is the taking of a human life, so there must clear evidence that a human's life was only taken to save another's.

Ending a human life is very serious; don't take it casually people.

Abortion definitely ends a life. I never was sure until I saw an ultrasound 9 wks after conception and saw the child moving legs and arms and looking like a person.

I don't know when life begins, but it has got to be before then. They say there are detectable brain waves a 6 weeks after conception.

I've heard of a 24 week premature birth survive. I think that is rare, but obviously possible. More of those will happen as our medical technology gets better.

If you or someone you know are considering it, go get an ultrasound before you decide! You'll be glad you did.

Well this is the great question isn't it? Personally I believe that human life, HUMAN life starts when the mother feels the quickening with her. The stirrings of movement. I believe that this is the pre-existent spirit enters the earthly body. However it would be more safe to state that an abortion prevents a human life in most cases, since many prevent the growing embryo from ever reaching the state of "life." However this argument is moot in light of the counsel of a living prophet who has emphatically stated that abortion is equivalent to murder and women who have had abortions need special approval to be baptized members of the Lord's church in our day.

My personal belief is so long as it is done before 3 months, no it does not. The human BODY is still being developed by then I believe that the SOUL has not yet taken hold of the body. Im not really a new age freak or anything I just believe the dominant soul takes possesion into the third trimaster when the body is almost completely formed, so as long as the abortion is performed before then the soul is not damaged. However I will also say that unborn souls are a lot more understanding than those of us who have been here long enough to get biased, and they dont exactly hold grudges. A womans choice is always sacred, her body remains her own, that is understood throughout spirit and flesh. So many babies are born everyday, there is no shortage of open doors!

Life begins at conception. Exactly with the chromosomes line-up and attach themselves to eachother forming a single unique cell.
Abortion does end an ACTUAL human life.

Have you ever known a woman who found out she was pregnant? What did she expect to happen to her? She was going to give birth to a HUMAN, right? This HUMAN was growing inside her until it developed, grew and changed enough to live outside her body. Then it would be born, right??? If it was not a live human being, it would not be growing, changing and developing, would it?? From the moment of conception to the moment of death, all human beings are in the process of growth, development and change. Anything that intercepts that growth, change and development at ANY POINT which results in the growth, change and development to cease is known as death. If the death was caused on purpose, it is known as murder. So, yes! Abortion ends a human life in development and change and growth. Therefore, abortion is murder.

The blood stream forms right after the development of the Heart. The Bible says the Soul is the Blood, and that it dies with the Body.

Absolutely abortion ends a human life, God knew us all millions of years ago ,we were created by God , the idea of killing each other is not apart of the plan, however to have free will we must be able to do what we want when we want....and we do ......

Obviously you recognize this as a hard question. Not an answer, but two reflections:
a) Humanity is defined as being in the image of God. When is this apparent? I think I would vote when able to love.
b) Life is defined in Genesis as having the ruach or breathe of God. Is that air or is it Spirit? If it is the ability to grow, then do trees have the Spirit of God?
I think we also have to examine the view of sex that sees abortion as acceptable. AND there is also the reasoning which gives humanity the presumption the decisions are theirs.
Thank you for the question.

Yes it does. This week my wife miscarried, but the child was far enough along that we still had to deliver. Looking down on my seventeen week old daughter I knew there was no way anyone would ever be able to convince me that what was before me was not a person in the fullest sense.
