I have heard that adhd is inherited. My brother had as a young age and I am seeing signs. My son is 5 and in kindergarten. He can sit for a long period of time and doesnt have a problem on doing his school work however when it comes to his behaviour thats where he has a problem. he doesnt like to listen when told over and over and over again. he has begun wetting the bed almost 1 a week and doesnt stop talking. what do you think?

ADD and ADHD are often misdiagnosed to children that are just easily excitable. Have a serious think about other aspects of his life away from school and see if you think that there are any signs there that he has ADHD. Put it this way, at school there are other kids, he's five years old and might just want to have some fun. Usually the concentration span is a bit of a problem in ADHD kids. If you are seriously concerned that he does, take him to a doctor that specialises in the disorder and get a second opinion if you can, if they both say that it's ADHD, than if you like, get your son treated for it. However a lot of the times, the treatments are heavily drug reliant.

This is my theory. It sounds like you child could have anxiety issues. Some children that can sit for long periods of time and who are students that never give a teacher problem come home from school and are like Jekyll and Hyde. It takes a lot of energy out of children who are stressed at school. They know that they have to behave at school. They come home explosive. Home is their safety net. You need to work on calming your child's nervous system when they come home from school. Do something fun. Let your child relax and unwind. The excessive talking could be an obsessive disorder or just anxiety too. The bed wetting could be a sign of stress. Watch out for how you react to his excessive talking and also the bed wetting. Children can read your emotions and this may just add to the stress. Try limiting drinks an hour before his bedtime. Talk to your pediatrician.
Also read, read, read everything you can get your hands on about ADD or ADHD and bed wetting, anxiety, stress in children and also depression. There is no blood test yet to determine if your child could have any of these. It's all based on observations so educate yourself the best you can before jumping into a diagnosis which usually require meds. Best of luck. I hope it's just a phase.

ADHD is different. Sounds like your son maybe going through a little stage. Has anything traumatic happened lately? The acting up is actually NORMAL. My daughter is 7 now and our doc waited till older in grade school. Mostly cause they can work some by their self's. Shes been on Meds now for about a year. Trust me the meds DONT slow them down and there is no medication for a rowdy kid. So my doc says. I tell him my daughter needs a tranquilizer or restraint. He laughs. But yes ADHD is hereditary. My ex-husband has it and so does his mother. Doesn't mean my kids will have it tho. It can skip the 3rd generation which is what I was hoping for. Sounds like your kid is like my son 110% BOY!! lol Good luck

OK, ADHD is something I was "diagnosed with," and it is a total joke. Everyone focuses when given a certain amount of speed, which is all those drugs they give you are...speed. I was given ritalin at 20 when they diagnosed me with severe ADHD, which is humourous, I have a 149 IQ and slept through college and high school with A's and B's without ever touching that poision. Don't let them stick your kid on drugs. Take him to a therapist and REFUSE the drugs, because this actually sounds like he was abused. He should not have been wetting the bed NOW if he wasn't as a younger child. This is a sign of physical abuse. The ADHD is not something that would cause it. If you are worried about him having that...well, that is another problem altogether and you can avoid the forcing of drugs on your child by having him do little brain games like crosswords and word games, etc.

This does not sound like a case of ADHD, he's just a hyperactive child. Bless his heart... I love kids like that. The little ball of energy needs to redirect all of his adrenalin towards sports.

Yes there's drugs for that too if you take him to a doctor (the whole country will be medicated in a minute with all these quick diagnosis) Don't take him to a doctor for that, it would be a waste of money.

The best and most classic solution is: martial arts, soccer, gymnastics etc...

Doesn't sound like ADHD. Talk with your doctor. Tell him your concerns. Is there anything going on at school that you don't know about? Talk with his teacher too. If he can sit for long periods of time he could have inattentive ADD but the only thing that strikes me as ADHD is continuous talking.

He sounds like he has a defiant disorder.im not sure why he just started wetting the bed although alot of defiant children are bed wetters.I think it`s time to really question him as to whats going on in school,at home and at relatives he might be left alone with.Just the smallest thing like some kid calling him a name can cause him to act out.If you are 100% sure there is nothing going on in his life then check out the link below about children with defiant disorder. My son has it and he can make everyone just as miserble as he is.It does not sound like if he has ADHD.His teacher would be the first to notice he has it and she/he would let you know right away.

Children with ADHD or ADD have a higher incidence of bed wetting. Either way, there are other approaches to treating ADD or ADHD that do not involve medicine, and I'd recommend exhausting all of those before putting your kid on meds.

I would have him checked by a doctor, when my son was smaller and the same things started happening to him. While he was in Kindergarden we had no problems at school or at home but by first grade he started haveing problems behaveing at home and by the end of the school year he was haveing problems with his work, he was passing but with difficulty, his teacher asked me to have him checked for adhd and he was put on medication and when he was put into the second grade he was tested for the Gifted Program at his school and this program is for the very smart children . he is now in the 4th grade and still on medication and stiil doing real well in school

well... i'm not entirely sure. i myself have ADHD. it could just be him being a kid... becasue when i was in kindergarden... i couldn't sit still and i always had trouble with homework. However, i did have trouble listening, so it just depends. All situations of ADD/ADHD will vary between kids. The best advice i can give you is visit your doctor and ask them. And yes, i do believe ADD is inherited. So if u have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
