Purple/Violet (Dark), they are complimentary colors. It will make your chair really stand out.

There are many colors that will go with yellow. Just to name a few, green, blue, red, purple, taupe or tan, white, many other shades. The walls could be an eggshell shade and then you could use the brighter colors to complement the chair. Bring some paint sample strips home. Home Depot has many to choose from. Hold them up to the chair and see which one you like the best. Don't forget to look at some really plush throw rugs that will go with your chair. (and plump cushy pillows)

If you're going for a super funky retro feel... use a contrasting or other bright color. I would do a lime green, red (but red paint takes a few more coats) or orange to set off the yellow chair. Congrats on your find! I LOVE retro furniture!

If you want to stay with the period of your chair then lime green would be the most authentic color combination. Orange would go well also but would not give your eyes anywhere to rest since both colors are bright and warm.

If it just your chair that you want to match or contrast I would use a purple or plum, according to your yellow color. You can go modern with minimal furniture or funky and use lots of orange, yellow, green, purples, pinks, and white. It is hard to give advice when you don't know all of the other colors for carpet, bedspread, curtains, etc. Have fun!

I would use a brown color. Take a good picture of your chair and take the picture to a paint store. That would be your best bet.
Good Luck!

lime green, me and my husband live in a rental apartment and we were able to paint the entire place and we painted the bedroom a soft lime green, so far everyone that has seen it says they love the color, but we are also going for a oriental theme, with black, red and white details.. so it depends on what your putting in the room after it's painted, if you have dark furniture would paint the room lighter, peach, pink, yellow, pale blue but if you have light furniture.... you get the point...

Depends on your preferences. A good match would be a pale yellow, pale green or off-white. If you prefer darker colors, brown would go nicely. NOW you have to decide on matching bedding and curtains! Have fun and hope it looks GREAT!
