I am 5'8" & 33yrs old.
Eight weeks ago I weighed 254lbs.
Today I weigh 224lbs and still dropping! :)
This is what worked for me: I reduced my daily calorie intake to 1500 units. (I kow, I know, no one likes to read the nutrition labels on food packaging, but nothing worthwhile comes easy... so read them!)
I make sure to drink at least 8 glasses (64oz.) of water each day and at least 2 pieces of fruit and 2-3 servings of vegetables.
I also excercise 8 minutes each day (jog-in-place, jumping jacks or anything that makes you sweat).
I eat anything I want, making sure to not exceed 1500 calories for the day. I use "Reduced Fat" and "Fat Free" products to prepare a whole variety of foods.
When I reach 210 lbs, I will reduce my calorie intake to 1200.

First off.. you don't have to run. Yes, you should be active but find an exercise that suits you and that you enjoy because then you are more likely to stick with it. If your gym has a pool then I highly recommend looking into an aqua aerobics class or just getting in on your own. Water that is waist to chest level supports about 50-75% of your body weight, so it's much easier on your joints and muscles. You will find yourself able to move more freely. Plus, water provides 12 times more density (viscosity) than air. Therefore, you get more of a workout in water because there is more resistance.
Anyways, talk to the people at your gym. Trainers won't be able to give you specific workouts but they could possibly point you in the right direction or give you some ideas. The main thing is just to keep active. You need to really focus on getting yourself to a level where you can do 20 minutes or straight vigorous -- as in really getting a good sweat going, getting your heart rate up... "sucking wind" if you will -- training (specifically cardio of some sort: biking, swimming, running, getting on the eliptical, the row machine, etc etc). Now, this is just the basic amount of time and does not include warm up or cool down (both of which are important and necessary to avoid injury while promoting health and recovery) and it would be in your best interest to try and increase the duration of this intensity.
But -- and I stress this -- find exercises that you enjoy or else you will lose interest quickly.
As for losing weight -- definitely! You just need to try your best to stay positive and dedicated. But don't beat yourself up if you stumble -- setbacks happen! Honestly, just keep active and change will happen.

Good luck!!

That's "lose" weight...loose is what you want your pants to be.

You can lose weight by eating well (no junk foods or sugary drinks), drink lots of water, and exercise regularly.

Cut your calorie intake to about 1500 a day, and exercise about 5 days a week...do something aerobic to get your heart pumping and calories burning...have the gym's trainer help you work out a program that's right for you)

I've been where you are (heavier actually) and am down to a size 8 now....you can do it! Good luck!

First of all find out what your weight should be for your height.
Then continue working out at the gym. Watch what you eat,
when serving your meal don't put a lot of food on your plate.
Eat three times a day, with healthy snacks. No cheating on your
meals. Don't eat at fast food places and if you do pick the most
healthy, no fried food. No soda, more water. If your going to skip
a meal make it lunch. Don't ever eat after 6:00pm. To Much
Cholesterol is not good for your heart.

provided you are dedicated to working out, yes. However, you should also be looking to your calorie intake. If your eating habits are in question then the safe thing to do is see your family physician. Do not over do yourself at the gym. Slow steady weight loss is healthier, and less likely to come back on you.

you need to start running...running will drop the weight around your whole body...start off slow...run maybe at a jogging pace for about 10-15 minutes and when you start to get use to running alott increase your pace and time...and the pounds will shed off....good luck. i've been struglling with weight for more than 5 years...another good advice is try to keep yourself busy with afterschool activities and programs...go out with friends....i've noticed that if you stay home a lot then its more common to over eat and not excercise...good luck
