The education that public schools are offering are very poor. The teachers don't really have the time to teach no more or are over whelmed by the amount of students in their class's. There is no such thing as one on one time any more in the class's either. The public school system has fell behind completely they don't have our child in their best interest any more. Its all about getting through the day with out having a upset parent show up in the office.I'm a parent of a child that attended a public school for 9 years. So if you can afford it keep your child in private school or put them in a home school program there are a lot of great ones. Just be picky which on you use..God bless you and your family

There are many excellent public schools nation wide; unfortunately, because of the No Child Left Behind Act initiated by Laura Bush and signed into law by her husband, George Bush, the public school system has been inundated with legalities that
circumvent teachers from offerring their brightest students an opportunity to advance. Teachers are required, by law, to teach to the lowest student level in their classroom.
The No Child Left Behind Act is the most detrimental legislation ever enacted upon public education. This Act comes up for renewal within in the next two years. Get a complete copy of this Act from your State Representative or Congressman. Read it, study it, determine for yourself the consequences. Write your State Representatives and Congressman, the President, your local school board, your State Department of Education. Let them know what you think. Do you like the Act? Do you not like the Act?
The future of American public schools may be determined by you.

I and many others here who home school would of course tell you that that is an option worth looking into as well. However, many people on YA are hostile towards home schoolers. I would google and find some online home school groups and ask questions there.
My son was in both public and private schools, we weren't happy with either despite his good grades. Too many hours in a building and too much homework afterwards, leaving barely enough time to enjoy life.
As for socializing, eh. Even in public and private schools there are plenty of non-social kids, then you have your middle ground and then you have your social butterflies. IMHO, the people bad-mouthing the socialization of homeschoolers are in the social butterfly category.
Home schooling isn't for everyone, but it definately is worth looking into. My best friend is a 2nd grade public school teacher and she said that maybe, maybe she'll get an hours worth of teaching something new in each day. She has to leave her class for one hour a day in order to help the children who are behind, during that time a teachers helper comes in to oversee things while children are coloring, reading, etc. According to her, most of her "class" time is spent doing classroom management...she sends her four children to a private Catholic school.

Private school is better a higher percentage of the time, but you may be moving to a city where the public schools are better. There are excellent public schools where I live (blue ribbon etc) but the vice principal of one of those excellent schools was sitting next to me as I registered my daughter for Catholic High School. Why? Her words: "My school is excellent; this is better."
Another option is to find someone doing an excellent job of homeschooling and paying them to take your daughter. This was an excellent option for one of my kids who just didn't fit into any school setting, public or private.

If she is already ahead of her class, public school will probably not be good for her. If you can afford it, private school or a really small public school might work for her. I am bias toward homeschooling though. I really think it is better for children who are not "average". Public school does a good job (in my opinion) of teaching average kids who thrive in the puritan style of education.

since this is the homeschooling section, I'm going to have to say homeschooling is the best choice too.
If your only choices are public or private and you are not even considering homeschooling, you may need to find a different category.
