Why do we have to conform to them? You all made your point clear about the English/Spanish ballots. In Japan, it is mandatory that they learn elnglish. I have met people from all the world and I have traveled all over Europe and they all speak english. I live in a city that has people from Africa, Egypt, Iran, Russia, and Kosavo, to name a few, and all of them speak English. So, the question isn't why do they have to conform to the American language, but why does the rest of the world have to conform to them?

actually, if you really think about it, that question applies to us...why does everybody have to learn english? why does everybody have to conform to us?

in other countries such as european countries, they learn at least 3 languages, to know only 2 languages is considered lowly. It's not only Mexico that doesn't expect their people to learn another language, it's us too.

But seriously, I think that because at present time we are the economic superpower, it benefits other countries to learn the language, but if you take a look at Mexico and their governmental history, they like to keep their people down while the government hordes all the riches.

Seriously, I think a mexican born-american raised and educated needs to go down there and run for president and take our government policies and help build up that economy. If you give people a chance and throw them more than a bone, they'll thrive. What are those words?... give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, TEACH a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime

Have any of you though about the fact that most women in Mexico are not taught English because they are to rely on the husband for things. And, the boys that are taught English are from families that are the higher end of the food chain. Those of you who work in some kind of fast-fast food or retail jobs have probably noticed that when a hispanic family comes in the husband or the kids will translate, it's because she was not one the few upper class females to learn English

And for those of you idiots that think English is an easy language to learn, try really listening to how someone who didn't grow up with the language speak it. Those people have an easier time learning every other language because all common languages have the same rules and principles EXCEPT English. It used to have the same but the thys, thees, thous have been out of existence for quite some time now.

More countries in the world speak English but there are more Spanish speakers in the world than English. Who is to say which side to follow. I speak both so I don't really care, just pointing out some facts.

If Spanish speaking people don't want to learn English, then fine. But let's don't pander to their wishes and change American customs by having everything printed in Spanish and English.
Having voting ballots printed in Spanish to vote for Americans makes no sense whatsoever.
If there weren't Spanish signs everywhere, then they might get the idea it would be good for them to try to learn English.
What's wrong with learning English, anyway?

I think it's great that Japanese learn elnglish. Next, they will learn English!

Where is Kosavo? Is it near Kosovo?

And what is the "American" language? Is it English? elnglish?

No wonder we are seen as "Ugly Americans". What right do we have to impose our language on other cultures? Perhaps the language that is most widely spoken in the world should be the official world language and everyone should be required to learn it. Think it's English? Think again, and start practicing your Mandarin Chinese.

IF YOU FOLKS ARE SO INSISTENT THAT EVERYONE LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH, WHY CAN'T YOU SPELL THE WORD "ENGLISH" CORRECTLY?????????

I think its really a good idea. Everyone isn't English speaking!
And who are you to require Mexicans to speak English. You dont even want them here. But who cares. They are here. Besides English is just a language, just as there are different languages all over the world. I think it would be a good idea to require those in the United States to speak French and Italian. Beautiful languages.
oh and yes....Arabic

(and I don't know where you're from, but every other country does NOT know the English language. Stop fooling yourself, silly)

Half the answerers here can't even WRITE or SPELL English.
SO shush.

Well baby, I'm Mexican, I speak English -very likely much better than you- and the way you lump me with those who don't speak your (?) language makes it quite clear to me that there's a hint of racism in your question, so clear that I can see your true self by just reading your question.

Greetings from Mexico.

You hate what you know dick about: HELLOOOO, WE DO HAVE "PRESS 1 FOR ENGLISH" IN MEXICO, IGNORANT IDIOTS!!

Exactly !!!!! If you want to live here, why would you not want to learn the language ???If the situation were reversed, and I smuggled my family in to Mexico, it would only be after I had researched the culture and language and wished to become a part of their society. The people coming here are just opportunists, and could care less about our language, let alone our values...I would have to say in their defense that they appear to have very close family relationships, which is good.... WHY IN THE HELL DO I HAVE TO DIAL 1 FOR ENGILSH IN MY OWN COUNTRY????? If you went to Mexico, do you suppose they have "dial 1 for english" ????
