Ok, the other day I went out got the cd of blue october. and then on the way home from church I put it on. It wasn't blaring, but it was loud enough to hear the words. well, it was only me and my dad, and usually my dad doesnt care what music i listen to. Well the song called "hate me' came on. and it said **** once in the entire song. And he started freaking out. Now mind you i am sixteen. And i have blared other music that promotes killing yourself and dieing and he doesn't seem to even care. but because of that one cd, he flipped out on me and took it and refuses to give it back. How do I reason with him? And my mom says that if he breaks or throws it away she will buy me a new one..

Donna,

Dad's hold us daughters very high in the innocence category. Suicide and dieing do not apply to you, so it's OK to hear that kind of music.

But he doesn't want you to hear foul language or ANYTHING of a sexual nature.

Do you understand?

Enjoy that special relationship. Buy the CD again and listen to the CD with headphones.

You will always, always be his little girl, no matter how old you are. He will always be your protector and in your corner (even if you think he's not).

If you don't use that word in front of your dad and it's heard on TV and radio etc etc just tell your dad you understand where he's coming from and yes, it's not a nice word but you didn't buy the CD to hear that word. Sit down with your mum and dad to discuss it. Offer him a deal. Can he trust you not to play that track? Can the CD be re-copied and leave out the offending track? Talk to him. Be reasonable and explain you didn't know the word was in the track. You certainly wouldn't have played it if you had known, would you?

Hello Donna,
Maybe you should try talking to your dad on this subject. When you know he is in a good mood tell him you don;t agree with using that word either but the group sings a lot more songs than that one that are pretty good or you wouldn't have bought the CD.

kill him with kindess, and avoid the arguments. play the cd in your own car one day. the arguments wont solve anything. sounds like he is stubborn and just wanted to make ya mad.
maybe ask again to have it back in a week or so, promising not to play it around him or anything else 'offensive'. or ask your mom to help reason with him.

ps good song!

Be patient. Let your mom work on him and try and get the cd back for you.
