I have a 3 month old kitten, Bella. She has no equilibrim at all. I understand she was born this way. She has shiny hair, plays and pounces, eats good. She just can't walk straight or be very steady. My husband was advised to have her put to sleep but I am against as he was. We are going to get a second opinion about this...any input?

Take her to the vet. She may have an inner ear infection. My cat had the same thing.

If she was born this way she could have a congenital inner ear problem, or cerebellar hyperplasia. Cerebellar hyperplasia is a brain defect caused when mom has distemper while she is pregnant.
Most of these kittens are fun, healthy, cute...and they just wobble.
No need to have her put to sleep, OK? Many of these cats learn over time to balance against things- walls, chair legs, to stand and walk better.
I would put her to sleep only if she had repeated seizures that could not be treeated, or had no ability to get around, play and eat.

she could have suffered a brain injury when she was younger. Maybe she was stepped on or something. I recently had a coworker who had a kitten like that, but she ended up taking a turn for the worse and was put to sleep. If she stops eating, starts to seizure, her temperature starts to drop (shaking), or anything else that is not normal for her right now, putting her to sleep is probably the best option. Some cats do fine with former head injuries, but others do need to be euthanized. Goodluck and I hope your kitten will be OK.

I've heard that cats are very susceptible to strokes, although she is pretty young. I would make a suggestion to my vet that may be a possibility. I don't know about any test they can do to check for a stroke. Good Luck.

Does this cat have a tail? My Manx cat walks OK but has a hard time keeping his balance walking on ledges, etc. He also cant land on his feet. I think the tail keeps their equilibrium
